Guest guest
Hi everyone, my names David, and my life is at a downward spiral. I'm not here to ruin anyones day or incite sympathy, I just need a little support, maybe just a few words or some advice. I dont think I need to go into detail too much about my life, theres a lot of things contributing to my current state of misery, namely drug usage/abuse, unemployment and a failing relationship with my significant other. I just need something (other than substances) to fill me up a little bit, maybe something to get me back on my feet so I can do what I need to do. I know its all in my power, but right now I feel I have no, it has been diminished. If theres anything yoga can do to help me, I think alls I need is a nudge in the right direction with it and I could make some progress. Much love, David

Guest guest
David I can only tell you what works for me even tho' the only drug I was ever addicted to was nicotine in cigarettes. In times of severe stress when I feel I have no support, I support myself by lying flat on my back on the floor then meditate and chant............the chant 'ra ma da sa sa say so hung' is done several times in the day. I suggest you might want to get the CD of this chant at yogatech. I am sure others will have much more to offer you. My method works for me. Guest guest
Dear David Everybody has difficulties and it all depends on how strong you are as a person. If theres anything i can learn from yoga it is this........... "learn from yourself, and connect to your intuition" because only you can direct yourself. This is something i learnt from Yogi Bhajan. Remember God (Waheguru - Wonderful Lord) he is within you, and you have all the power in the world to do what you want. Obviously there will be tough times, but they are only tough if we see them that way! Think positive. Something that has already changed my life is the mudra meditation. seriously all i want do do is meditate, but because im born a Sikh i must also try to serve others and try not to hide from reality or society. Advice: practice everyday the mudra meditation, close your eyes and inhale deeply the word "Sat" and exhale deeply the word "Naam". focus at the top of your head do it for at least 11 minutes a day. find out what the mool mantar is, and put that in your mind whilst your doing this at the same time. Remember the sikh faith is not restricted for certain people, anyone can practice parts of it (whether your christian muslim, etc. If you can try and get some of yogi bhajans lecturs and you will REALIZE your own suffering. Im not perfect im still learning like you the art of meditation. But if theres anything ive learned from the yogis it is "if you cant see god and beauty in all, you cant see god at all, and this can only be done by releasing the mind from agitation, stubborness, and the ultimate disease of all which is........ .....ego" Overall: RELAX everything will be fine! just remember you was born to serve a purpose otherwise you wouldnt EXIST! Bye Sat-Naam! MR Chahal
Guest guest
Dear David I highly recommend doing at least one of the classes you can find on line every morning for the next 40 days. Check it out in kundaliniyoga.org Find a teacher. You can do that too, through this list and an online search. try to relax. eat nourishing things. go to sleep early and wake up early. be a friend to yourself. I really really really like the book "The Power of Now" by Tolle. You might buy it and read it. Sat Nam, my friend, you will survive! Guest guest
Hi David, What you may want to do is check out a good 12 step program like NA or AA. I would recommend 90 meetings in 90 days. You can use Yoga to connect to a higher power or for health benefits. You also need help from people like yourself who have been through what you are going though. I have been clean and sober for 17 years with this formula. Good Luck Sat Nam Brian Sheboygan, Wisconsin
Guest guest
Or every day try to taper off a little bit more, and attempt to not beat yourself up if you don't. That is what I am doing right now. I also started a good internal cleanse program with daily sweats to try and rid myself of as many toxins as I possibly can. The first 2-3 days of course you feel like you would like to crawl out of your skin. At that point in time, I had nothing (substances) to fall back on and had no choice . After that I keep reminding myself what a hellish experience those 2-3 days were to try and keep myself in check. And I really have to make the effort to stop and make myself go back to it and feel and experience it again. So I tell myself, " okay just for today, none of it (substance) or a much lesser amount to wean off. That is all I know. You sure are not the only one, which also makes me keep trying. S. Guest guest
Dear David, You can shift your direction by doing KY sets for the navel. In the free on-line lessons www.kundaliniyoga.org you will find one for the navel center Nabhi Kriya. There are also others in Transitions to a Heart-Centered World which you can purchase on www.yogatech.com This is a treasure chest of exercises and meditations. All of them work wonders! The important thing is to do Kundalini yoga every day for 40 days. Your life is guaranteed to transform. I know its all in my power, but right > now I feel I have no, it has been diminished. * You had the power to right this letter and that is enough to turn your life around. Now make your next step to do these exercises everyday. The ones for the navel help you cultivate more will power. If theres anything yoga can do > to help me, I think alls I need is a nudge in the right direction with it > and I could make some progress. * Great attitude! Please let us know what and how you are doing. I have a feeling you are going to switch your life around quite dramatically. And just to let you know, the SA TA NA MA meditation in other lessons helps release addictions. Many blessings, Gururattana
Guest guest
Sat Nam, David, Asking for help is such a huge step. I will echo Brian's suggestion of a 12 Step Program. I am also active in AA and find that the philosophy taught by Yogi Bhajan dovetails beautifully with the 12 Step Program. Fill up with spirit and connection with your fellow human beings. There you will find true peace. Both the physical practice and meditation helped me and may have truly saved my life when things seemed to be tailspinning out of control some years ago. Thank you for reaching out. I wish you the very best and send you one very powerful nudge. Guest guest
David: First, what I would look at is what are you looking for when you crave drugs? What is it you are really aiming to experience? There is always a positive constructive search in what we do. Our actions to satisfy these cravings can be destructive but the initial spark is positive! When you know what it is that is positive that you are looking for then you have given yourself new options to satisfy it. Say you are looking for relief from pain. Then you know what you are avoiding and it is time to stop avoiding. It is time to accept the pain and learn what it has to offer you, like a little infant inside trying to communicate something of deep worth. Say you are looking for a deeper experience of life. Then you can look for what that means for you, learn about that which is unique about you. Explore. Say you are looking for acceptance and love. Then find out what in you wants to experience this and open up to receiving it from God, from yourself from the universe. What parts of you are resisting acceptance and love? What would it take to let go of these resistances? Now each time you crave drugs, experience deeply what you really crave for and find out what is it is that is positive about it. And give yourself a healthy way to access that experience. Kundalini yoga may be one, but if you have always wanted to be an actor but scared away from it. Kundalini yoga will only help to give you the confidence and strength to achieve your goal. You'll still have to go out there and go for it! Second, what does your heart really want? It is related to the previous question, but may be different. When you know this then you can start looking to take action. If your heart wants to contribute to the world in some way, or it wants to be free. then learn this about you, what you want to contribute and how you will go about it, or what freedom really means deeply to you. This is an exciting time David, because you are choosing to know yourself. Kundalini yoga will help you every day and your deep quest of learning how your mind works will warn you how to avoid past traps (like the use of drugs) and what your heart wants will bring you closer to your inner beat and will help you get up in the morning to a new you. Don't choose to fight drugs and cravings so much as choosing to explore what you are really about and after. then the cravings will slowly disappear on their own. They may come back but you will have a choice to remember who you want to be. We each have to learn to be more freely who we are every day, until we touch on that infinity that we are. Drugs were one way you chose to explore, now you are choosing something else and your path is opening up. Just remember what you are looking for because that will inspire you. Then you won't have to work so hard at resisting temptations and distractions. It won't be easy every day. Heck, it isn't easy even for those who have not used drugs! So that's not an excuse anymore! Many blessings, Awtar
Guest guest
David- You have taken the first step and admitted you need help. Take the next step and find a 12 step program. I second what Guru Gopal Kaur and others have said. We were not long ago where you are now. Go to meetings, more meetings, pray and practice Kundalini yoga. It works . Guest guest
Hello David, I want to add to all the good advice you've gotten, from personal experience. When I first discovered Kundalini Yoga, some 25 years ago (hmm - has it been that long?!) I was drinking myself under the table. Literally. I was drinking to unconsciousness. In addition to doing the yoga, I also had wonderful support from some people in the KunYoga community and from one person in particular who would counsel with me very often. I am sure I would not be alive today if I had not found Kundalini Yoga. So I say that to you to encourage you - just do the yoga. If you can do 5 minutes do 5 minutes but do it every day. Then do 10. This is such a powerful technology it has to be experienced to be believed. If I hadn't had it happen to me I don't think I would believe that something could turn my life around that way. Personally I find aa quite objectionable, but whatever works. regards, rasheeda Kundaliniyoga, "David Weaver" <shmid2000 wrote: > > Hi everyone, my names David, and my life is at a downward spiral. Guest guest
Dear David, Namaste, You've gotten alot of great and loving advice already! I have found that these affirmations really help. one is an internal Q&A for yourself. When you feel yourself starting to feel hopeless/ unloveable/ downward spiral/ about to regress/ do something unconscious, ask yourself "Am I okay at this very moment?" If you check and see, perhaps in the past you felt bad and in the future you will feel bad, but if you put yourself into this moment fully, you will see that you are actually okay. Then mentally remind yourself that "I am all right, right now." We the jeev the living entity are saccidananda. We our very essence and core is full knowledge and bliss never-ending. When we the jeev have been raised in a society and by parents, teachers, mentors who did not know this they told us that we were bad, not to be trusted, full of faults, unlovable, stupid, retarded, geeky, whatever. We were led to believe by TV movies television ads radio CDs our friends relatives ministers etc that we are somehow or other incomplete and that we need to glom onto another to be happy and feel fulfilled. But David none of those people knew or more imporatantly fully realized to the core of their being and essence that we are eternal sparks of the Supreme full of Life and Light and Love Divine, over-flowing with all Beauty and Grace. No one told us we have Divine Parents and as such we are "visve amrtasya putrah" the children of Nectar. David in addition so cruel hearted people created music videos television movies showing how glamorous are drugs. Or perhaps we are drowning in sorrows and we are in need of something to put us into black hole of unconsciousness like intoxicants which plunge one into black ocean of sorrows to blot out our unhappiness. My friend you are a child of Nectar, of the Divine. At this moment on this planet near you are many good souls who have social services to help you with rehab, job placement, counselling, etc. These are different jeevs on the path of Light, the charya pada, who feel happy to do good deeds to help others. Avail yourself of their counsel. Another lovely affirmation is, "I am a wonderful being with a special mission to fulfill." Write it down often in times of stress and transition. It would also be helpful to look at your astro chart to see when you will get a break from the unmitigating stress. A free online source is world wide web astro dot com. Reach out to others who are there to help those in your position. You will help them to earn punya and sukritya by their doing good deeds to help you. And by understanding what suffering is you are becoming deep and wise as a soul. Don't despair, "that which does not kill me makes me stronger." Repeat these two affirmations of only to yourself silently and avail yourself of whatever help is out there. Know that you are a being of Light in a world of Darkness or Mrtya Loka, that is why you feel so bad. But my friend you are not bad or dark, you are eternal spark of the Divine. Look to the Light, and reach out to find others in this world who know they are sparks of Light in this world to help you get back on track again. Namaste and Aum gentle friend.
