Guest guest
Help on the Quest for Self-realization-Reminders-70 To pay attention to any particular thought, even if only to deny it, to recall a memory even if only to reject it, runs the risk of investing them with fresh strength and thus of fixing them firmly in the mind, whereas one's efforts should be aimed precisely at getting rid of them. The way that the Maharshi recommended is essentially positive. It consists in trying to find out at every instant, in every act, who in truth it is that lives, thinks and acts, and in being attentive to the see-er in the act of seeing, to the hearer in the act of hearing, and so forth. It is a matter of constantly, relentlessly pursuing this consciousness of oneself which hides behind the phenomena (objects of person 's perception / what the senses or the mind notice) and the events of the psychic (mind) life, of discovering it, seizing it in its original purity before anything else has covered it over or adulterated (debase by adding other or inferior substances) it. This means in fact trying to reach one's self, one's identity, beyond and beneath the level of manifestation. Sri Ramana was perfectly sure that this investigation could not fail to bear fruit, provided it was pursued unflaggingly (tirelessly, persistently).
