Thanks Dr. Shyam for this delightful conclusion at the end of your

two part serial 'Self and Medical Science ' ( part 2)

 

(One can only imagine what a leap of faith it is for a

"thinking person of science" not familiar with Ma

Shruti to accept his or her "self" as the very

substratum of the universe!

Wow! Any excuse to praise the Divine Mother in any form is 'music'

to the ears! After all, it is from the Vedas we learned the

beautiful chant of Veda mata Gayathri.

 

The Goddess GAYATHRI has five faces in five colours each

representing respectively, real knowledge, steadiness of the mind in

meditation, righteousness and virtues, blessing with Aiswarya and

prosperity to those who chant and atma jnana or self-realisation.

BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI

 

DHIYO YO NAHA PRACHODAYAT

 

O GodDESS! Thou art the giver of life, the remover of pain and

sorrow, the bestower of happiness; O Creatrix of the Universe, may

we receive thy supreme, sin-destroying light; may Thou guide our

intellect in the right direction.

 

Shyamji, it is my pleasure to bring to you some favorite verses of

mine from chapter 11 Of DEVI Mahatmiyam ( Narayani Sthuthi)

 

 

 

vidyAH samastAstava devi bhedAH

striyaH samastAH sakalA jagatsu .

tvayaikayA pUritamambayaitat.h

kA te stutiH stavyaparAparoktiH .. 6..

 

'All Knowlege are your aspects. O Devi; so are all women in the

world, endowed with various attributes. By you alone, the Mother,

this world is filled. What praise can there be for you who are of

the nature of primary and secondary expression regarding (objects)

worthy of praise?

 

sarvamaN^galamAN^galye shive sarvAtha.rsAdhike .

sharaNye tryambake gauri nArAyaNi namo.astu te .. 10..

 

'Salutation be to you O Narayani, O you who are the good of all

good, O auspicious Devi, who accomplish every object, the giver of

refuge, O three eyed Gauri!

 

 

lakshmi lajje mahAvidye shraddhe puShTi svadhe dhruve .

mahArAtri mahAmAye nArAyaNi namo.astu te .. 22..

 

'Salutation be to you, O Narayani, O you who are good fortune,

modesty, great wisdom, faith, nourishment and Svadha, O you who are

immovable O you, great Night and great Illusion.

 

medhe sarasvati vare bhUti bAbhravi tAmasi .

niyate tvaM prasIdeshe nArAyaNi namo.astute .. 23..

 

'Salutation be to you, O Narayani, O you who are intelligence and

Sarasvati, O best one, prosperity, consort of Vishnu, dark one,

nature, be propitious.

 

sarvasvarUpe sarveshe sarveshaktisamanvite .

bhayebhyastrAhi no devi durge devi namo.astu te .. 24..

 

'O Queen of all, you who exist in the form of all, and possess every

might, save us from error, O Devi. Salutation be to you, Devi Durga!

 

 

vidyAsu shAstreShu vivekadIpe\-

ShvAdyeShu vAkyeShu cha kA tvadanyA .

mamatvagarte.atimahAndhakAre

vibhrAmayatyetadatIva vishvam.h .. 31..

 

'Who is there except you in the sciences, in the scriptures, and in

the Vedic sayings the light the lamp of discrimination? (Still) you

cause this universe to whirl about again and again within the dense

darkness of the depths of attachment.

 

vishveshvari tvaM paripAsi vishvaM

vishvaatmikA dhArayasIti vishvam.h .

vishveshavandyA bhavatI bhavanti

vishvAshrayA ye tvayi bhaktinamrAH .. 33..

 

'O Queen of the universe, you protect the universe. As the self of

the universe, you support the universe. You are the (goddess) worthy

to be adored by the Lord of the universe. Those who bow in devotion

to you themselves become the refuge of the universe.

 

 

praNatAnAM prasIda tvaM devi vishvArtihAriNi .

trailokyavAsinAmIDye lokAnAM varadA bhava .. 35..

 

'O Devi you who remove the afflictions of the universe, be gracious

to us who have bowed to you. O you worthy of adoration by the

dwellers of the three worlds, be boon-giver to the worlds.'

 

O Advaitins! ! all are shaktas at heart ! The very fact that we are

all 'breathig' entities is beacause Devi resides as the

very 'breath' in all of us. She is the 'prana' shakti
