in February during Basant panchami and we Tamilians Celebrate

Saraswati Puja on the ninth day of NAVARATRI !

 

In October of 2003, Professor V.K.ji invited all devotees to submt

1008 names of Devi as part of his maha yagna 'Namavali Prayers to

devi' !i was so inspired by Professorji's devotion to the Goddess, i

submitted many names on Devi - here are some Honorning Sri Saraswati

Devi, Goddess of Learning , Knoweledge and Wisdom!

 

O Saraswati Devi ! proficient in 64 arts, let me be the divine

Sound 'Omkara' in the veena instrument you hold in your beautiful

lotus-like hands! OM Namo Namaha!

 

O Kalyani! one who is full of kalyana gunas (auspicious qualities)

You are also Kalai-vani , well versded in all fine arts ! Bless me !

Om Namo Namaha!

 

O Matangi, One of the Dasha Mahavidyas! You reside on the lips of

poets , in the hands of artists , on the tongue of musicians, in the

minds of philosophers and scients , in the hearts of all Sages as

the supreme Self , sashtangha pranaams! Om Namo Namaha !

 

O Sharade of Sringeri Peteham! Adi Shankara installed YOUR image

on a Sri Chakra! In YOUR four hands ,Devi YOU hold a jar of the

nectar of immortality ( amrita kalasham), a book of braamha vidya ,

a rosary to meditate on the bija akshara of 'Aim', and display the

chin mudra of 'awaremess' ! Om Namo Namaha!

 

O Dhyana Saraswati!! In your Lotus hands, you hold

the Rosary of Beads! Help this devotee develop one -pointed

of Mandana Mishra , who challenged the great Adi SHANKARA in a

O Brahmi , the beautiful consort of Brahma! You are

the very embodiment of the Mantra 'so ham' ! WE are all born with

this divine mantra and chant it with every breath we take ! Let me

inhale your Divine name and exhale your divine name '*Aum Aim

Sarastwatyaii namaha! '

 

O Vani! Grant me *manju-bhasha *(sweet speech), *mridhu-bhasha* !

(gentle speech) , Karna-Amritabhasha! ( pleasing to the ear like

nectar) ! Let my speech be full of Truth (satyam) , auspicious ,

(shivam) and beautiful (Sundaram) ! Om namo namha!

 

O Vedavati , Granta-garbini!From your womb, all scriptures are

Born!Make me well-versed in all vedas and other great

scriptures! By reading all these scriptures (granthas( , ket me

untie the knots ! (granti-bhedini)! Om namo namaha!

 

O River Goddess Saraswati! Saras means 'everflowing' ! Let knowledge

and wisdom always be continuously 'flowing' and never dry up! OM

namo Namaha!

 

O O Sharade, Kashmira pura vasini ! Please remove the sufferings

of all the people in the world specially the ones in the Kashmir

valley , a region torn by communal violence ! Om Namo Namaha !

 

O Paramjyoti! Let me offer you fruits !these fruits also represent

the fruits of action! (karma phala thyaga) ! O devi ! please bless

me with the fruits of Jnana and Bhaktiso I can rest my head at your

lotus feet and be liberated ! Om Namo Namaha!

 

O Vidya! Among the Vidyas , you are Atma Vidya ! You are Brahma

Vidya! You are Sri Vidya , supreme knowledge ! Muni manasika
