The vaibhavam of this Divya Desam is discussed by Naradar and Brahma in seven chapters in Bavishyotra puranam. Laksmi was performing kaimkaryam to Perumal in Thirupparkadal. She wanted to reside permanently in Perumal’s vakshasthalam. Hence, She came down to earth to perform tapas in a place called Senbaga Aranyam. This place is where the Nathan resides now. Pleased by Thayar’s tapas, Perumal appeared before Her on a Friday (in sukla paksham) in Ippasi month. There is special thirumanjanam for thayar on Ippasi Fridays. As she performed tapas in Senbaga Aranyam, she is known as Senbagavalli thayar.

Usually, Perumal faces eastern direction. In this Divya Desam, He faces western direction because He appeared before Thayar to offer the boon by facing here. There is another version too for facing western direction. When Sibi Chakravarthy was offering his flesh on par with that of a dove's weight to vulture, Perumal wanted to see this great act, and hence turned in the western direction to see this.

Once Nandhi, the vahanam of Sivan wanted to visit Perumal in SriVaikuntam. He forgot to get the permission of Dwarapalakas. Due to this, the Dwarapalakas cursed nandhi. Wwhen nandhi narrated this episode to Sivan, the latter asked nandhi to go and perform penance towards Perumal in Senbaga Aranyam, which is south of Thirukkudanthai, north of Mannargudi, west of Thiruvinnagaram and south of Thiruvarangam. Pleased by nandhi’s penance, Perumal offered darshan to him in this Divya Desam. Nandi asked for kaimkarya prapthi to Perumal in this Divya Desam, and hence requested Him that this place be known as Nandipura Vinnagaram.

This Divya Desam in under the control of Vanamamalai mutt. Nathan in this Divya Desam holds five weapons in his hands. Kaliyan calls this Perumal as:
