Guest guest
> > everyone is > > eating tons of sugar filtered through cow bones charcoal! > > Is that process still current? A very important question! Some devotees argue that Srila Prabhupada allowed this, but it has to be said that that can only have been a circumstantial allowance, not a permanent allowance. Nowadays many, many foods are contaminated with meat derivatives. For example, glycerin and the like have animal ingredients. So many E numbers have anmimal products, there is a very big long list. Many years ago one devotee in the UK compiled a very extensive list, revealing that many devotees were eating meat unknowingly regularly. For those who argue that Srila Prabhupada allowed contaminated white sugar circumstantially and 30 years later use that as an excuse to offer it to the Deities when there are plenty of uncontaminated choices available have seriously missed the point and can only be guilty of being lazy to make the effort to keep pure. In Caitanya Caritamrita we read about Vaisnavas who would reject even uncooked grains that had been seen by sinful persons!!! What to speak of consciously eating sugar contaminated with slaughtered cow bones! Nowadays there are so many good alternatives to white contaminated sugar. And how can a devotee 'knowingly' offer to the Deities sugar that is contaminated with cow slaughter? It beggars belief that some devotees actually do that and justify that with Srila Prabhupada circumstantially allowing the use of white sugar 3 decades ago when there were little or no alternatives available. Srila Prabhupada said he gave us the sky scraper framework and it was up to us to fill in the pieces and decorate it nicely. It goes without saying that he would want us to use uncontaminated sugar to offer to the Deities given that there are so many health food stores in the world that supply excellent alternatives. You'll be surprised how many temples in the world today still use contaminated white sugar for making the Deities sweets. This surely can't be right, even if it has been wrongly going on for decades. In the UK Tate & Lyle are a big producer of contaminated white sugar but they also now offer uncontaminated alternatives owing to the demand. This point raised by Bhakti Vikasa Swami is very important for the well being of the entire ISKCON Society and it would be re-assuring if those responsible for the standard for Deity worship worldwide would act accordingly. ys ad
