Everything can become its opposite." This is undoubtedly true, but in what context? In extraordinary situations Krishna can reverse the contamination. But will Krishna be pleased if we go on offering Him sugar and so many other foods contaminated with meat for three decades when there are other uncontaminated choices easily available? Circumstantially, yes. After three decades, no. Another perspective to this is offering food contaminated with meat to Krishna 'unknowingly'. Then the above verse applies because Krishna will undoubtedly protect His sincere devotee. But now nearly all of us KNOW that most sugar and so many other foods are contaminated with not only ordinary meat like crushed beetles and the like but with 'cow's meat and bones'. There is a verse in the Bhagavatam that states if a person 'knowingly' commits a sin the reaction is more than for one who does so 'unknowingly'. So to offer meat contaminated sugar and other foods to the Deity knowingly invokes a heavy reaction on all those responsible - the cook, the Temple President, the GBC, and the Ministry of Deity Worship for not enforcing such a simple and basic standard. The Deity already has to transform so many bad elements from even vegetarian food such as all the contaminated karmis who have seen and touched the food. But that is surely no problem for the all merciful Deities. But to offer knowingly meat contaminated sugar and other foods to the Deity is surely insulting to the Deity. Nrsimha Kavaca's statement that he had a discussion with Kurma Prabhu about the food codes with the idea of putting a list up on his website is far from adequate. It will require a lot more effort than that. We are not talking about spending large sums of money here, all it requires is a little time and effort from each head pujari and temple president - as did H.H. Danavir Goswami - to see that the Deity is offered the most pure food available. Where there is a will, there is a way. I would recommend that the ISKCON Deity Worship ministry simply write each temple with Deities and request a report indicating what precautions if any they have taken to ensure that the Deity is not being offered sugar or any other food that is contaminated with meat. Back that up with some basic contaminated food guidelines and the good example of H.H. Danavir Goswami and the job is underway with little expense. The count and the response would be most revealing. In this day and age there cannot be any valid excuse for offering an ISKCON Deity sugar or any other food that is contaminated with meat, yet it is not clear as to what extent this serious offense is permeating our ISKCON Society worldwide. Hoping the Deity Worship Ministry will respond. ys ad
