Sphatik/Quartz quality and Sandalwood

How does one evaluate the gemological quality of sphatik/quartz?

 

If one is suffering from excessive heat in the body, defined as high

pitta energy in ayurvedic terminology, what is best to wear around neck

to cool mind and body; a sphatik mala or a sandalwood mala?

Dear Mr. Ole,

I am of the opinion that you may go for Sphatik mala instead of Sandal wood mala. It is cooler than sandal wood.

Gemmological quality of the Sphatik or Rock Crystal depend on its clearity. You may get diamond cut Sphatik malas on many website. However, there are three subtypes in the diamond cut. The India cut, China cut, Diamond cut with 44 facets and 90 cuts (approx.). The diamond cut sphatik with 90 cuts looks beautiful. The facets of China cut are oblong and vertical. The price difference of 44 facets and 90 facets is almost double for the same size and no. (108 +1). Many dealers quote high cost but supply 44 cut diamond cut. The beads without cut are very cheap.

If you want to go for Sandal wood bead mala, purchase from the Karnataka Govt. or Tamil Nadu Govt. shop only. These shops are Cauvery and Poompahar respectively. There is much cheating in Sandal wood items if you purchase from other states.
