praNAms Sri Mahadeva advaita prabhuji

Hare krishna

First I hope the split in your name *mahadeva advaita* (MA) is correct

:-)) And from advaita perspective my below thoughts may make some sense to

you.

MA prabhuji:

I am confused by these concepts of Devis/devatas/abhimani devatas etc. How

does Advaita look at all

this. Veda itself talks about Rudra, Devi, Agni, Surya etc.

bhaskar :

No need for any confusion here when we keep vEdic declaration *yEkam sat

viprA bahudA vadaNti*..this yEkam yEva advitIya satya is ONE & the SAME in

ALL...even shruti vAkya confirms this *yEkO dEvaH sarvabhUtEshu gUdaH*....

MA prabhuji:

My common sense perspective is that it simply means that any form, symbol,

element of nature, etc can be chosen as a deity and worshipped as Ishwara.

bhaskar :

Yes, Ishwara can be worshipped in any form...ulmately it leads to THAT

only....brahman has multiple faces, legs, hands (vishvataH chakshurutaH,

vishvatO mukho, vishwataH uta vishva taspAt...sahasra shirsha purushaH etc.

etc. shruti/vEda vAkya-s confirm it) krishna confirms this in gIta too *yO

yO yAm yAm tanuM bhaktaH shraddhayArchituM icchati*...But we should keep in

mind that this nAma & rUpa upAdhi kruta Ishwara & his dominance over

prakruti & jIva holds good only in vyavahAric jagat where we consider

ourselves as tiny soul...

MA prabhuji:

Dvaita claim seems to be that there is a hierarchy of devis and devatas

with Vishnu at the top.

bhaskar :

they will tell hundred and one things like that...if it is so confusing why

bother...just leave it :-))

MA prabhuji:

I personally think that "Satyam, Jnanam, Anantam brahma" cannot be given

any name

but if you wish to worship that infinite principle of asti-bhati-preeti,

you can chose any God or Goddess. Dvaita also claims based on some verses

in Gita that only Lord Krishna should be worshipped

but then why all the rituals, etc in the Vedas related to devatas/devis ?

bhaskar :

I think this comes under the category of *dharma jignAsa* where various

vidhi-s (injuctions) have been prescribed to get desired results...for this

dharma shAstra-s are the ONLY pramANa without questioning its legality, we

should follow what it says...for example, to get sons, we do putrakAmEshti,

to get *long life* we do mrutyunjaya hOma, Ayushya hOma, to get rid of

enemies, and for our own welfare we do sudarshana hOma, like that for

various purposes we do chandi hOma, rudra hOma etc. etc. for different

purposes..the vidhi-s involved in this, the dEvata-s involved in these

rituals are all according to vaidikAgama.

MA prabhuji:

Also can somebody please explain what is the origin and significance

of the term - Isht devata ?

bhaskar :

Sorry, I dont know :-))

regards,

Om Namah Sivaya

Hari Hari Hari Bol!!!

bhaskar
