Guest guest
Hi Ashutosh! I respect your opinion and your prior experience with this man 'Bhaskar'. If you think he should be banned, then end of story as far as I'm concerned. But I wonder if the silent majority of the list understands the difference between 'creating disturbances' with one's posts and just having an unpopular opinion. I know that on some other lists lately there has been talk about 'banning' and when it is appropriate and when it isn't. I spoke with one banned person who was still hurting from having been banned from this list some time ago, and was vocal about it on another list as if VAlist has no other purpose than to ban people. We seem to be going thru a particularly silent period on this list right now. I can speculate as to reasons, but I really don't know why. What I do know is that attendance on this list skyrockets when there is 'disturbance'. Usually, people manage to disagree and argue and get angry but stop short of complete disrespect and name calling (or at least do so offlist). It seems to me that banning tends to come in when that line of disrespect and name calling gets crossed publically. So that makes banning okay in my eyes. However, I'd hate to have it have a chill effect on this list that's greater than the chill effect we are going thru. Do you have a standard for banning? It's so easy as a lurker onlist to think that one can't voice a different viewpoint without getting annihilated by someone. I know of one very pleasant woman who used to contribute onlist all the time. But she left because every time she posted someone would write to her offlist and insult her (not me those times!). Are we just all getting angrier and rude? Is it that we have trouble accepting that others can disagree with us or dislike us without it actually devaluing us? I don't really know what I'm saying. I'm just worried and sad that so few people post. I know that I personally have contributed to offlist disagreements, and I'm thinking that I'm wrong. So maybe I'm just writing about me. Hmm. Lovely. Well, it's my opinion and I'm just going to throw it out there since nothing else is happening anyway! I'm glad we get rid of disrespect, but I miss the disagreements - it allows for growth and new ideas. Guest guest
Good post, Mary - by the way, many animals are killed specifically for their leather rather than for their meat - adds a different twist on things, eh... ======== - Mary Quinn valist Monday, October 09, 2006 8:41 PM Re: Re: Leather and White Boys- Ashutosh Hi Ashutosh!
