Namaste Advaitins,

 

It is said that for Sannyasins of the ShAnkara-sampradAya, the only

mantra is the OM. They have to immerse themselves in the chanting

and contemplating of this one mantra. In their three-time

anushThAna every day, they have to chant a minimum of 10,000 times.

 

The Sannyasins of the ShAnkara-sampradAya are supposed to study the

Panchikaranam of Shankaracharya with the Vaartika of Sri

Sureshwaracharya and do their spiritual practices accordingly. The

subject matter of this work is the same as that of the MandUkya

Upanishad. The work PanchiikaraNam and the VArtika give the

theoretical teaching involving the OM and the practical method of

realizing the Supreme by aparoksha sAkshAtkAram. Quite fitting

indeed is the name: PraNava-vArtika.

 

There is a book published by the Advaita Ashrama, of the Sri

Ramakrsishna Mutt in English, priced at Rs.10/. It contains the Text

and the Vaartika with word for word Translation, English rendering,

comments and glossary. There is an index provided for the vartika

verses as well.
