Namaste

Friday eve at the Devi Mandir several of us had a discussion about

Kali. We shared how we have experienced the purifying effects of Kali

in our lives, especially in the intense sattwaic, or positive,

atmosphere of the Mandir. As we shared our experiences, we saw a

common theme in our lives, and in all creation. We observed that Kali

is a principle. Kail is a universal principle, as well as a Goddess.

The Kali principle exists as every aspect of life which seek to bring

harmony, balance, and righteousness to the diverse fields of action.

Kali, or the Mother shakti principle, empowers and propels all

impulses of goodness in life, and seeks to destroy all forces of

darkness and dis-harmony.

For example, every Mother seeks to bring out the best and highest

aspects and actions from their child. A Mother will do anything to

help their child, even discipline the child, to help the child learn

the proper and correct action and behavior, the harmonious and dharmic

behavior.

A Mother will fight to destroy any negative impulse which threatens

the welfare of Her child.

Indeed, everywhere around us, the "Mother or Kali" principle is at

work, trying to create harmony our of disharmony.

Look in your own life, and discover all the ways and means that the

Mother Kali principle is working on and in you.

Remember how good you felt when "good" triumphed over "bad", and how

you felt empowered to try harder to act in a positive, or dharmic way,

based on that experience.

Analyze what forces played a part in helping you to overcome a

negative impuse towards adharmic, or negative behavior, and take the

high road of positive life-supporting behavior.

Those positive impulses are the Mother Kali principle.

Learning the puja, learning how to worship Kali, is a direct means of

becoming familiar with, and forming a relationship with, the Mother

Kali principle, the supreme force for goodness in the universe. It is

a supremely practical way of "getting in tune" with this force of

goodness.

If we recognize the Mother Kali principle in our lives, we can become

inspired to learn and practice the puja. Puja then becomes a

practical part of our lives, not a burden and task which seems to be

un-related to our daily sphere of activity.

It is certainly becoming that for me. I pray that it does for us all.

Jai Maa, Jai Kali

Vishweshwar.
