Namaste-

I hope this question does not seem to simplistic, and forgive me if

the information is clearly posted somewhere and I missed it:

I am wondering the particular benefit/fuction of the various Deity-

specific Gayatri mantras, as compared to the other mantras associated

with said Deity (realizing, of course, that different mantras have

different functions and goals).

Blessings,

~Devi~

I have always used the Deity specific Gayatris as invocations, and chant them as preparation before doing 108 repititions of a root mantra. I seem to recall that Harish Johari has several pages in his "Tools For Tantra" book, giving Gayatris and their specific effects. (I thought some of Johari's Gayatris were awkward -- they don't always scan! The Gayatris have strict meter, and exactly 24 syllables, minus the Oms.)

Everything in time has to have a beginning...

The first spark of spiritual intelligence awakening in the physical body

is represented as Ganesh or Gayathri. It is something like awakening a

gene code dealing with higher intelligence in the body. Unless the code

is made active in the body as to just in the mind, the sucesss of the

awakening is fragile. That is why most pujas start with the Gayathri for

that specific intelligence we seek to imbibe.

The sound of syllable 'GA' or rhythm of the meter Gayathri( 24

syllables describing the intelligence) is used to awaken that latent

intelligences in our bodies, thus being firmly grounded we can expand

into the mind and beyond...

Jai Sri Ramakrishna!
