Om Namah Sivaya

Sthula Panchakshara (Namah Sivaya)

Tirumantiram by Rishi Tirumular

Verse 2706:

Blessings of the Five Lettered Mantra-of Siva's Feet and Form

When Karma's miseries harass you,

Chant the Five-Lettered Mantra

Of Nandi (Siva) pervasive;

If you thus seek Him,

He, the Grace of His Holy Feet confers;

Your devotion shall lead you to Siva Form.

Sivaya Namah

Dear Selva and all,

I once heard an astrologer say (on TV) that 'men' should

practise "Om Namah Shivaya" while for 'women' it should be "Shivaya

Namah Om".

Well, could'nt argue with the guy since he was on TV .... but can

you enlighten us whether such a "rule" exists....not that I care,

but it caught my interest....maybe there's some logic who knows...

Maybe - men/women difference may not be there, but is there any

difference if we practise one form vs. the other?

Om Namah Shivaya

No Vedas/Shashtras/Puranas says to chant like that. It is like women should not pray to Lord Hanumanji showing their hands (funny thing)!!!

I don't know where such things/ideas emerges from???!!! What is logic? There is a proverb in Sanskrit, "Munde Munde Matti Bhinna", that means each individual has different thoughts, (buddhi).

Whenever, such questions arises strictly follow our roots(ancient scriptures), otherwise you would be surrounded by such DOs and DONTs and one would get confused.

God never see difference in men and women.

I would like to talk that person(astrologer) on this, it would be interesting, rather than logical.

here's something i found from "Lord Shiva and His Worship" by Swami

Shivananda (http://www.dlshq.org/download/lordsiva.htm):

......................................................................

Panchakshara is of six kinds, viz.,

Sthula Panchakshara (Namassivaya),

Sukshma Panchakshara (Sivaya Namah),

Karana Panchakshara (Sivaya Siva),

Mahakarana Panchakshara (Sivaya),

Mahamanu or Mukti Panchakshara (Si).

`Namah' means `Prostration'. `Sivaya Namah' means `Prostration unto

Lord Siva'. The Jiva is the servant of Lord Siva from the Deha-

Drishti. `Namah' represents Jivatman. `Siva' represents

Paramatman. `Aya' denotes `Aikyam' or identity of Jivatman and

Paramatman. Hence `Sivaya Namah' is a Mahavakya, like `Tat Tvam Asi'

which signifies the identity between the individual and the supreme

soul.

...................................................................

IMHO, we all have our unique way of connecting to the great

Lord...and all ways are correct so long as the 'feeling /

connection' is correct/established....for who understands us better

than the good Lord Himself.
