Kali Puja Class- Day 9

Dear All,

Today we will focus on pages 81-91 in the Kali puja

book by Swami Satyananda

Puja Naivedya (offerings of worship)

Page 81

Invitation

We fold our hands in prayer and recite the

invitation mantra.

We invite the Divine Mother to our hearts and to

remain still until our vow of worship is complete.

Seat

We place the tips of our fingers together, palms

facing up, thumbs out, and make a seat for our Divine

Mother to sit on mid section, near our heart.

Page 82

Foot bath

Sprinkle a few drops of water at the feet of your

coconut or at the feet of your Kali murti.

Water for washing hands and mouth

Sprinkle some water on top of coconut or near, on or

over Kali murti.

Arghya-corsage or bouquet

We make an arghya by taking a flower on a stem like a

rose, (not too long of a stem) lay the stem in a red

cloth. Add a little black sesame seed, uncooked rice

grains, dried or fresh basil leaf, chandan powder,

perfume. Wrap these ingredients up in the red cloth

with the stem. The rose will be sticking out of the

cloth. Tie the cloth with a string.

If you can't make an arghya then substitute for a

regular flower.

Madhuparka-yogurt drink

In a small bowl you will add a little yogurt, honey

and ghee and recite the mantra.

All of the ingredients are offered together.

Page 83-84

Water bath

Sprinkle water over your coconut and or over, around,

or near your Kali murti.

Bracelets

Offer bracelets (your choice), your Goddess

Page 84-85

Conch ornaments

offer any kind of conch shell ornament like a ring, or

bracelet

Page 85

Ornaments

offer any kind of jewelry- your choice, your Goddess

Page 85-86

Rice

offer a few grains of uncooked rice

We pray for a spotlessly pure mind.

page 86-87

Food offering

Offer any cooked food you have made for Kali here,

fruits and sweets.

We will be making the following items here for Kali:

kitchuri, 14 kinds of green leafy vegetables, fried

eggplant, daikon salad, rice pudding, pitta(see Shree

Maa cookbook), chutney(see Shree maa cookbook)

Of course we will also be offering pomegrantes. We

are so lucky that pomegranate season comes around the

time of Kali puja.

Sprinkle water over all of the food offerings and some

flowers or petals.

Page 87

Drinking water

Offer some water to Kali. Use a clean cup, or a bottle

of water.

Page 87-88

Betel-nuts

We get these from an Indian store.

They are kind of like an after dinner mint for the

Goddess.

Page 88

Dakshina

You will offer some money at the end of your puja.

Every puja ends with the offering of dakshina. Swamiji

said that a puja is not complete without this

offering.

Part of the mantra says: anantapunyaphaladamatah which

means: Give infinite merits as fruits.....

Page 89-91-Arati

Now we offer the following articles:

umbrella, fly whisk, fan, mirror, camphor,

flower(give to Kali)

Thus ends Day 9 of the Kali puja Class

Remember that Kali's big day

is coming up very soon on Friday,

October 20.

Any questions? Don't hesitate to ask.

There are many other ways to worship Kali. You

can just recite the Kali puja book without any

physical offerings. Or recite part of the book.

Recite the 1000 names or the 100 names, or the Kali

kavacham, or the Adya Stotram or listen to Shree Maa

sing the 1000 names of Kali. It is very beautiful.

Om Kring Kalyai Namah!

Stay tuned for Day 10!
