Guest guest
I was wondering if someone could help me with a very basic, very introductory-no one- around-to-personally-guide-me-through-it puja for Kali. I'm not even sure "puja" is the right word. I have both the "Kali Puja" and "Durga Puja for Beginners" book but am still confused on what I can actually DO in the mornings (perhaps) as an honoring of Kali Ma. In the Kali Puja book I have, there is an option for a shorter puja by page number, but these pages do not seem to match up in the actual book (different additions perhaps?) Or am I simply mistaken? In any case, I have been very excited and happy with the posts I have been reading from this message board, and look forward to more. Hope you are all well. b
Guest guest
Namaste: Many of us in here are total novices. There is a class on the Kali puja, but it might be easier to say a very simple mantra to honor Kali. I was so confused one time someone in here gave me a Durga mantra to say. That helped quite a bit. I'm also doing things by myself as well. I'm not sure going to a regular Hindu temple would help either. Someone correct me here if I'm mistaken. Devotees to Kali are sometimes viewed in a different way by even Hindus. Is that right? Jai Ma! Guest guest
Namaste Starla, Don't think Kali devotees are any different from worshippers of Shiva or Durga. Each Hindu God or Goddess is partial to a certain ritual, for instance the flower that is offered or the rituals that are followed. This is mainly done to please the God or Goddess. And this not is just about mantras. Unless one is properly trained in all the rituals, it can also bring the wrath of the Mother Goddess. As in any descipline, one has to persevere and learn all that goes into the rituals from a Guru or a Guide. At a personal level, it is more about communing with the Mother Goddess. And when we feel pure devotion, the Mother responds and blesses us. Since devotion is from within, the rest does not matter. However a guide or Guru can help in realizing the Mother. But ultimately it is our devotion that can help us in reaching out to Her. No Guru or guide can help us there. Guest guest
Namaste Bdotop, Starla, Mimi and everybody! Thanks for this very interesting discussion! hope its ok if i can join too! As you all say "It's all about Love" :-) Swamiji says that She is our Mother - and we can love Her in any way we want! The Rishis (Ancient Seers) found some ways to demonstrate their love through mantras, pujas and they had a wonderful communion with God. So, we try to follow in their footsteps - a little at a time. But there are no rules in love....its all in our heart! Mimi -from what i have learnt from Maa and Swamiji - we don't need to worry about God's anger or wrath. Swamiji says that when our intention is pure, there is nothing to worry -- about pronunciations, order of rituals etc....We are little children calling our Mother - She knows what we mean whether we say "MomMoo-moo" or "Maa-maa" - it is our intention and love that makes it pure and beautiful -- and very fun, isn't it? Bdotop and Starla - on the home page of shreemaa.org there is a beautiful Kali Mantra - It is a great place to start. Also, if you want, you can read the English translation of Kali's 100 or 1000 names from the Kali Puja book. Another sublime activity is to listen to Shree Maa sing the 1000 names as you look at their meaning in English!!! Bdotop - The page numbers and sections mentioned in the introduction in my book are: Invitation and Vow of Worship 6 - 29 Purification 41-44 Establishment of diety within 62-67 Offerings to Goddess 81-91 Closing Prayers 247 to 253. Hope this helps! :-) Jai Kali Maa! Wishing everybody a beautiful Kali Puja in the garden of pure love scented with flowers of devotion and watered by tears of joy!!!!
