CHHOTI DIWALI

Friday October 20, 2006

All Day

(This event does not repeat.)

Notes:

Diwali is really five festivals in one. Narak Chaturdashi (the second day of Diwali celebrations, just one day before the main Diwali) is popularly known as Chhoti Diwali (Little Diwali) and it falls on the 14th day of the Hindi month Kartik, after the Dhanteras. Chhoti Diwali is celebrated with same zeal and enthusiasm as the main Diwali but it is on comparatively lower scale. Just as on Diwali, people light diyas (lamps) to fill their homes with light, worship Goddess Lakshmi and offer prayers to Her -- but all these things are not as grand as on the day of main Diwali (Badi Diwali).
