Guest guest
Dear Devotees, There have been some persistent issues with people not wanting to be part of this list, yet wanting us to reveal private discussions here to outsiders. We have a policy here on the Achintya List to keep Achintya discussions on Achintya. There were some historical reasons for this, as well some other principles, among which was the need for some devotees to be able to discuss things frankly without being attacked somewhere else. I cannot enforce standards of moderation elsewhere, but I can here. This point was made clear in the Achintya List Rules/FAQ. But in spite of this, there have been some persistently inconsiderate individuals who have tried to publicize our discussions here. 1) One list member began cross-posting articles here (without permission) to the Dvaita List, where unbeknownst to us they were being attacked in a particularly vitriolic way. When I discovered this, I wrote to the guilty party requesting that he explain himself. When he did not, but instead continued to cross-post, I kicked him off the list. 2) Someone representing the Audarya Fellowship forums created a mirror for the entire Achintya list (including archives) on their public forum. Messages written here in confidence were reproduced over there and were being responded to by other ISKCON devotees who would otherwise not have been allowed in here. I know Jahnava-Nitai dasa manages that forum and is a very stalwart Vaishnava. Still, I could not fathom why anyone from that group would do such a thing without asking for permission. I can assure you that I did not give them permission to do this. When I contacted them about the problem, they did not apologize or respond in any way, but they did delete the mirror according to my contacts there. 3) Again on Audarya I am informed that the "shUdras not qualified for Vedic meditation" thread got copied over there including responses that I posted. I posted on Achintya - why are my responses appearing there? If I wanted to post to Audarya, I would. There are reasons why I choose not to, as I am sure others have their reasons. I really don't think we are discussing the secrets of the universe. But I do think that because this is a private forum, it should be respected as such, and the people who are forwarding messages from Achintya to elsewhere are being *very* *rude*. We don't need to have a discussion here revealed to a Jesus fanatic on another forum, or a hostile mayavadi, or someone from the Tattvavadi list who will take the comments out of context as somehow representative of the Gaudiya position and then start attacking Gaudiya gurus. People who post here, like me, are in the learning process. Their opinions should not be exported elsewhere only to be attacked by opportunistic people with a sectarian mentality. I really don't want this to always come down to me doing detective work, finding the guilty parties, and kicking them off. Instead, I propose that if there is someone who feels they cannot respect our forum and its rules, then they should simply leave.
