Dear Bhagavatas:

Sometime ago, someone had asked for the availability of a Grantham called

“BhoogOLa NirNayam”.

“Whether this is a work by Swami Desika is in doubt”

Says MahamahOpaadhyaaya Srivatsankachariar Swami

(Vide page 566 of the 7th centenary commemoration volume, 1968)

He has listed some of Swami Desika’s works that were not available at the time of publication of the said volume. (Vide page 567 ibid)

If any Bhaagavata can throw any light on the availability of any of these Granthas subsequent to 1968 till date, it would be helpful for all Desika Bhaktas.

1. ADHIKARANA DARPANAM: This is a vyaakhyaanam of “AdhikaraNa SaaraavaLi” TirukkuDantai Desikan has stated in Sahasranaamam that this is written by Swami Desikan.

2. NIGAMA PARIMALAM: This is a Vyaakhyaanam of “AaraayirappaDi” and is considered to be “74000 PaDi” in MaNipravaaLam. This is mentioned in “Vaibhava Prakaasikai” Swami Desika’s intense interest in “Nigama ParimaLam” is evidenced by its usage in Paduka Sahasram.

3. TATTVA SIKHAAMANI: It is believed that this Grantham must have been written even before “Rahasya SikhaamaNi” since it is mentioned in “Sri Desika Gadhyam”

4. MADURA KAVI HRIDAYAM: This is a vyaakhyaanam of “KaNNI nuNN Siruthaambu” as evidenced in the commentary on the Tanian to “KaNNinuNN Siruthaambu” Sri Vaatsya AhObilaachaariar Swami.

5. CHAKAARA SAMARTHANAM: When VidyaaraNya argued that there was an excess of “Chakaara” in Swami’s “Satha dhooshaNi”, Swami appears to have explained the need for the “Chakaaram” and that it was not excessive. “Vedanta Desika Chritram” avers that this Grantham had 500 slOkas.

6. SILPAARTHA SAARAM: The existence of this Grantha is gleaned from “Guru Parampara” in connection with Swami’s conquering in debate a King called “Silpi Raja”

7. SAMASYAA SAHASREE: It would appear that Swami composed this at the conclusion of “StOtra Bhaashya”

8. SAARA DEEPAM: This also is not available today

9. VEDANTA SANGRAHA VYAAKHYAANAM: Like his writing vyaakhyaanams to all the other works of Sri Bhashyakaarar, this should have been written by Swami Desikan. There is proof for this in “Periya TirumuDi aDaivu” where it states “Srimad vEnkaTa naathaaryai: vEdaartha sangraha vyaakhyEna”

10. STHEYAA VIRODAM: References are found for this Grantham in Swami’s “Paramatha Bhangam” as also in TirukkuDantai Desikan’s Sahasranaamam where the name of this Grantham is specifically mentioned.

11. PATTHUP PAA:

12. KAZHAR PAA:

13. AMMAANAIP PAA

14. OOSAL PAA

15. YESAL PAA

The works from 11 to 15 are lost

Besides the above there are a few works that have been discovered at the time of publication of the Centenary Volume and have since gone in print. They are:

1. RAHASYA NISHKARSHAM:

2. DASA DEEPAKA NIGANTU:

Both of these has been printed in the Centenary Commemoration Volume

3. PRAAKRITA VYAAKARANAM:

4. GURU RATNAAVALI:

These two were being printed by Parakaala MaTam, Mysore at the time of publication of the Centenary Volume.

SrI:

It is sad that these granthas of our Desikan have become "luptham".

Rahasya Nishkarsham, as found in the 7th cen. vol., is a Classic! It is a vyakyanam of AgalagillEn irraiyum.... , sritatva nirnayam( certain aspects not there even in chatusloki bhashyam) and upaayatva praarthana vicharam.

Nigama Parimalam, if available, would have outdone all other vyakyanams!
