yathindra pravanam vande ramyajA mAtharam munim

 

Ippasi Moolam is the most auspicious and glorious day

of the appearance of Sri ManavAla MAmunigal.

 

Today, adiyen was fortunate to listen to Sri Velukudi

Varadhachariar swamy's upanyAsam on Periya Jeeyar.

Adiyen would try to repeat/paraphrase the words

of swamy as much as possible.

 

Even though ManavAla mAmunigal has many wonderful

qualities and many many pastimes, few of those adiyen

remembers Velukudi swamy explaining.

 

ManavAla mAmunigal is dearly known as Azhagiya

ManavAla MAmuni, Jeeyar, Periya Jeeyar, Vara vara

muni, etc. But he has one special name which no other

AcharyA received, even though they all qualify for the

same. It is Yathindra Pravanar. Many stalwart AcharyAs

such EmbAr, KoorathAlvan, MudhaliyAndan, Bhattar,

Nanjeeyar, Nampillai, Periya VAchan Pillai, et all

have all shown great dependence towards EmberumAnAr

but none received this great honor. Even though Periya

Jeeyar himself is punar avatAram of Swamy EmberumAnAr,

he always showed so much humility

and always presented himself as a very lowly servant

of EmberumAnAr.

Adiyen also observes that Periya Jeeyar in his

YatirAja vimsati accepts all naichya bhAvam of all our

pUrvAchAryAs such as Alavandar, KoorathAlvAn, Bhattar,

etc., on himself eventhough he does not have to do it.

It is only his humility and total

dependence on Swamy EmberumAnAr.

 

The other great honor which no other AchAryA received

is the well known thaniyan presented by Lord

RanganAtha himself and completing the AchAryA rathna

mAlai. Even Swamy EmberumAnAr himself did not receive

that honor. Every AchAryA appears for a specific

purpose. AlavandAr appears to begin the tradition of

Stotrams and explaining the vedAnta. EmberumAnar

appears to establish the Sri Vaisnava darsanam fully.

Bhattar appears to establish Sri Rangam's speciality.

Periya vAchAn pillai appears to write vyAkyAnam for

Tamil prabandams. Lokacharyar appears to give us

rahasya granthams. This way Periya Jeeyar appears to

glorify EmberumAnAr. And EmberumAn inturns glorifies

Periya Jeeyar by accepting Periya Jeeyar as his

AchAryA and presenting his own sesha paryangam as

sambAvanai. That is why we see Periya Jeeyar with Adhi

Seshan everywhere.

 

There many other wonderful glories of Periya Jeeyar

such as

- Blessing us with the vyAkyAnam for rahasya

granthams, AchArya Hrudayam

- Blessing us with the vyAkyAnam for Periyalvar

thirumozhi (only for the missing pasurams)

- Blessing us with many sri sookthis

- Knowing all the vyAkyAnams by heart and always

chanting the vyakyAnams

- Re-establishing Sri Rangam's glories

- Performing 1 year kAlakshebam of Eedu in

Sri Rangam which was enjoyed by EmberumAn himself

with nAchiyars, Alwars and AchAryAs at the expense

of all other utsavams

- Sending his disciples all over the bhArata desam to

spread the Sri Vaishnava Darshanam

- and many more....

 

Adiyen will stop here and pray to Periya Jeeyar's

lotus feet for any mistakes adiyen might

have committed and will hopefully develop some

devotion towards his lotus feet.
