Dear friends,

Shani / Saturn & Rahu are the main two planets that provide a lot of fear/ hindrances to natives.Mere the name of both is quite enough to make a person depress or afraid.

There several remedies are suggested by learned astrologers for the same but i am going to explain here a very simple as well as the most effective remedy not only for the aforesaid both planets but also to get the peace, prosperity & harmony in the family and to remove obstacels,the bad effects of so called Vastu as well.

Please light a lamp (Diya/Deepak) of sesame oil daily or on each Friday & Saturday after sun set in the place of worship or near the doorcase and

found extreme relief regarding above noted problems.

(diya) has to be of any particular kind, like earth, iron, peetal,

ceramix or anything else. Will iron/peetal diya be more effective as

Shani Devta likes iron?

Hi Shashie Shekhar ji

What if OIL IS MUSTARD (and not sessame) and in north

we have practise of lighting Desi-ghee lamp also-what

about that

You are right! In Central India at least, mustard oil (sarson ka tel)

was used to adorn Shani Maharaj and is considered his favourite oil!

Sanidev is represented by mustard also, along with sesame (more popular, of course)! Many of you will be aware of a 'wick' made of a tiny bundle of black sesame in a cloth, dipped in oil and lighted in Sanidev's sanctum. Here, sesame is a clear winner since mustatrd will start crackling alarmingly! Also, the one big diya with lot of oil for a mass of such 'bundle-wicks' of worshippers is made of iron -probably from the practical viewpoint of avoiding a big pool of oil on floor if earthen diya breaks!

So, looks like mustard and sesame both are ok for oil and earthenware and iron both are ok for container.

Dear Sree,

Your sidebar <more popular of course> I hope refers to where one grew

up! Like I mentioned, til-ka-tel or tilli-ka-tel (sesame) had little

to do with saturn where I grew up (central India, right where North

and South meet ;-) -- but mustard (sarson) was the preferred one!

As for your attempt to rationalize and inject logic into what

obviously is a ritual (hence paralogical or even illogical!) -- I

say, "Good Job!"

I have recently written about saturn and oil and skin and all this

ritual business, so let me end by saying: Thanks for sharing!

Hi,

If you read Shanidev's arti, there comes a stanza and it says.

"Loha, Til, Tel, urad, mahishi ati pyari"

it means that shanidev loves iron, seasame, oil, urad pulse, mahishi (bull).

So what I have seen in north india and I believe is correct is 'wick' made of a tiny bundle of black sesame in a black cloth, dipped in mustard oil is lighted in front of shanidev. I have seen that this helps.

To use Sesame is not only the best remedy to get the pleasure of Saturn but also it is highly useful for other melafic planets too.In fact Sesame is produced by the body part of Kashyap Rishi and all the Devtas,Grahas,Pitras become utmost delighted to the person who offers Sesame to them by any form as Snaan,Daan,Havan,Tarpan and Bhojan.More over Saturn belongs to Kashyap Gotra. Therefore it gives utmost benefic results to one who oblates Sesame any aforesaid form to him but it is said that Deep Daan is Maha Daan.So it is advisable to all that one should light the lamp of Sesame oil in the evening Pooja time in their houses for making calm melafic planets and for getting blessings of favourable planets.

Thank you all for replying to my query re the type of diya.

We also sprinkle a few black sesame seeds in the sesame oil while

lighting the diya. Can anyone please tell me what should be done

with the black sesame seeds that remain in the diya after the oil has

been burned up. I know that in India you would put it in a temple

well or in running water. But we live abroad and there are neither

temples nor wells here. We cannot put it in the sea because if

anayone notices us doing that, we would be in trouble. Should we just

trash it or run through the tap water in the sink or put it in a

corner in the back yard or what can be done with it? Same goes with

the cotton bathi that we light.

Hello icymaiden2000,

I am not an authority of any kind on anything. That said, I dispose of the leftovers, incl. nirmalya flowers, navadhanya after puja, torn or old pics of deities etc. with an apology to the deities; they not only know our deeds but also our intentions, right?

In my language, there is a saying that loosely translates into, "cow dung/clay becomes Ganapathy at one time, and cow dung/clay again (after pooja is over)".

Hope some "pandit" will reply to assuage your fears/concerns with a religious authority ( and I wonder what else he can suggest, since even incinerating- homam- will leave its own residue!) May be the Kshama mantra- offering of apology in sanskrit for this would go something like- KRIYAHEENAM (BHAGAVATHE PARIPOORNA TADASTU MAY SHREE BHAGVATE NAMAH; ) KSHAMA YACHANA SAMARPAYAMI. I am using Bhagavathae as a common term for all Gods; one can replace by specific name as well. Sanskrit scholars/Pandits pl. correct me.
