I am currently in the process of getting off Xanax. I have been on it

for a year now. I am also taking Trazadon at night to sleep. Do you

have any recommendations for people coming off medications?

I am on prescription medication for depression and was on trazedone too. Only problem with trazedone was I became tolerant and had to increase my dosage. I would be left dehydrated. the depression medication had side effects of drowsyness and upset stomach so I would take it and then stop. I am looking to alternative ways to deal with my depression and sleep problems. My sleep is nto steady and I still have bouts of depression. I am trying to do kundalini yoga -some ravi singh dvds and also breathing meditation to increase serotonin and over come depression and anxiety. It helps but you have to be consistant which I have not been. I have read that alternating breath and jsut breathing in and out can overcome depression. There is a breathing ex by yogi bhanjan on kundalini org site that helps. The depression medication I was taking help increase serotonin and kundalini yoga increases serotonin too so I thought why not try to use yoga instead and instead of

feeling drousy I would feel alert and more conscious. I would talk to your docter tho about comming off medications. I have know people to use both and when they feel the depression no more they decrease their medications whilst letting the docter know too. I have tried valerian for sleep with chamomile, passion flower, and melotonin for sleep. I would definately let your docter know what you are doing and listen to him to. 5htp is a herb that helps increse serotonin and also has the relaxer valerian. It is not too expensive too. It has less side effects. Let me know if you find anything else that helps.

Hi Katnip

If you want to take yourself off those types of medications

you should get your doctors help. I was on simmilar medications

for over 20 years, and I know from experience that just stopping

them can have bad withdraw symptoms. They can also cause a

sevre depression if you just stop them.

I am now off of them but I used my doctors advice to do it. All

the time I was withdrawing from them I was under my doctors care.

Even now I am still continuing under doctors care. After stopping

these drugs depression has a greater chance of relapse then

if you never took the drugs to begin with.

Sometimes a person can be miss diagnosed, but after you are

on those meds don't just stop taking them.

I have experieced lots of things since I started to meditate that

medical doctors would have commited me for.

Love and peace to all

Stephen

I am definately going to work with my Dr. I am just looking for some alternatives while I I am going off the Xanax. I have not been able to find an antidressant that works for me.

I will check out Yogi Bhajan's example and the ravi singh dvd's.

Thanks for the info.

Dear Kathy,

take a look at this site: http://www.theinternetyogi.com/.

David Shannahoff Khalsa, the internetyogi, is specialized in the

treatment of psychiatric disorders using Kundalini Yoga (Yogi Bhajan)

techniques. There are many articles that can help you with anxiety and

depression and ....much more.

For example read this article: (very long address!)

Try doing sodarshan chakra kriya with 5mins a day. The breath may take a few days to learn but it is worth it. Do 40 days, as it starts working you will feel like crap, it´s working. Then around day 40 you will have a release and feel good in the flow with everything, thinking faster and more optimistic. Do some kirtan kriya before it helps for a smoother ride. Do this for 120 days increasing 1 minute each month. You may have some twitching or shakes don´t worry it´s your nervous system adjusting. Pressure inside your head. You will find your mood more stabilized. Try not to drink or take unperscribed drugs during this period. Feel free to do nabhi and sat kriya during this time too. Don´t miss a day and you will be feeling alot better. I´ve been doing Sodarshan chakra kriya for 8 months, currently 15mins with Triple mantra and I´m feeling much better. Mahan gian mudra is another favorite that zaps your blues away. I´d do sat and nabhi for at least a month or two before

attempting mahan gyan mudra. This stuff works.Remember after your seemingly darkest hour you get a breakthrough so keep doing it even though you don´t feel so good, it´s working. Also, be prepared to go through release cycles every month. Each time it gets easier. Do it for 1000 days. Start getting rid of your extra baggage, you´ll feel alot better. Claude a friend cryed for like 10 days in a row and she had a release where she cryed for 1hours since then she no longer feels depressed. She said that doing kirtan kriya before sodarshan helped smooth out the rawness of this kriya in processing our garbage. Another woman got off wellbutrin after 90 days because energetically the pills felt different after this kriya. After 8 months i can say that i sleep alot less than i used to. My mind is more user friendly and i no longer freak out about the small stuff. -Chris

Dear Kat

If you are inclined to drink these things, the caffeine in tea and in coffee

spread out over the day up to 3 pm so as to avoid sleep problems, can be the

cheapest and easiest anti-depressant on the market ...... However, caffeine can

be addictive. Keep the amounts to a low level. It works for me and I

don't seem to have any cravings for it..................I know caffeine is a no no

for many but I cannot take the drugs for depression. Some days I can go

completely without as long as I keep myself productively

busy...................Distraction helps.

Take care

Have you had your thyroid tested? Hypothyroidism can

cause depression. Have you considered medical

marijuana?

Dear Kat,

A treatment with St. J Wort or Hypericum perforatum works for alot of

people. Chek with your doctor if that is an option for you.

I too take a caplet of standarized Guarana a day , it gives me energy and

stamina through alll day.

I have had my thyroid tested. Thats the first thing my Dr. had me

do. I don't like using marijuana recreationally so I don't think it

would be a good choice for me medically. Thanks for the input.
