Guest guest
A comment: Correct me if I am out of line here, but just because Srila Prabhupada said, in one letter in 1969, that 'he understands that soy beans 'are nice* that we should then conclude that Prabhupada condoned the use of soy beans. He said "I understand". Probably his disciples told him that soy beans were nice, and he was quoting them, because he says 'I have no personal experience with it. This was in 1969, early days. We certainly have no record of Prabhupada cooking with soy products. We also recall that in the very early days, Prabhupada discovered frozen vegetables and was using them once or twice, but later he wrote in a letter that they were 'nasty'. Surely Prabhupada was allowed to 'evolve' in his opinions, expectations and perspectives of our Western lifestyle and habits, as he did certainly about things like marriage. So surely one comment in one letter at a certain point in time cannot be taken as absolute culinary instructions for ever, especially without taking the comment in light of many other LATER instructions on the matter of diet. Isn't this a reasonable observation? ys Kurma dasa *["So far this soy sauce, I have no personal experience with it.
