Guest guest
Dear Friends and Family, Namaste! This week we are discussing the first Sutra of Kashyap Sutras. This Sutra says that birth is dependent on Prarabdha Karma. Can we alter our prarabdha? How can we do so? Can we alter the prarabdha of other souls? How can we do so? We look forward to your discussion of these questions! Love srini
Guest guest
Hi Srini, Yes, by doing homa and other forms of tapas we burn our karmas, so our prarabdha can at least be attenuated. Additionally, if we are fortunate enough to be accepted by a guru, Swamiji has said, the guru takes on some of the burden of our prarabdha karma. We can also reduce the karmic burden of others by doing tapasya in their names. There is also realization. The attainment of samadhi, pure knowledge, actually that samadhi which transcends knowledge (asamprajnata samadhi), burns all the storehouse of karmas, except for those of the body, which will remain as long as the body does. According to the yoga sutra, the attainment of the lower samadhi, the samadhi with knowledge (samprajnata samadhi), gradually, with repeated practice, reduces the prarabdha karma to seed form. They may still be ripened if conditions are right, but they remain dormant so long as they are not stimulated or are continually washed in the sattvic waters of samadhi. When the higher samadhi is attained they are fully burned and they cannot sprout again. Jai Maa!
