Guest guest
Dancing World Soul Kali is at http://home.pacific.net.au/~ferment/ This is a new website which addresses questions like: * Is Kali a goddess, the Goddess or something else? * Goddess Kali and Kali Yuga - same word? * Who is Mahakala? The site relates Indian understandings of Kali to western traditions such as Renaissance natural philosophy and Jungian psychology. Articles, poetry and line drawings from the journal Ferment, founded June 1990. Please have a look & let us know what you think. Om Shantih. Guest guest
Thanks. It is good to disuss these topics. But the drawing is entirely inappropriate for the subject. We are talking of a goddess and religion with rituals involving sacrifices, powers of divination etc etc. This may have something in common with Africa.May be,Kali worship was the common religion of that large southern land mass from which Africa, South America and Australia evolved. As per the theory of continental drift,India actually belongs to this southern land mass and was pushed northward due to tectonic movements. The drawing depicts a woman of the northern hemisphere. It would serve as a good cover page for a new edition of Omar Khayyam's Rubayiaa. However, this does not detract from the contents under the various topic heads and enthusiasm and interest with which material was prepared. Will send suggestions after a more detailed study. Asatomaa sadgamyaa, Tamassoma jyotirgamayaa, ......Ohm Shaantih,Shaantih ,Shaantih Let untruth be dispelled by truth and darkness by light ...... An interesting thought, but.... According to specialists in plate tectonics, India (with Antartica and Australia) began to move away from Africa in the Jurassic period, some 167 million years ago. The Indian plate reached Asia about 45 million years ago, "buckling the crust and forming the Himalayas." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gondwana) On the other hand, based on fossil evidence, paleoanthropologists tells us that the first members of the genus "homo" - human beings in a broad sense - appeared just 2 to 3 million years ago. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_evolution) The great reptiles of the Jurassic age may indeed have been honouring the universal life force in their own way. But could they have practised a "religion with rituals involving sacrifices, powers of divination etc etc"? Or, can you give a good reason for thinking that the old southern continent broke up much more recently than I've said, or that human beings have been around for much longer? >The drawing depicts a woman of the > northern hemisphere. Because of her long flowing hair? Based on study of writings including the Devi Mahatmya, Kalika Purana, Adbhuta Ramayana and Mahanirvana Tantra, I see Kali as the mother and soul of the whole world -- both the southern _and_ northern hemisphere. Please do post further comments and suggestions about the Dancing Kali website when you're ready. Guest guest
Thanks for the detailed reaction.I absolutely agree with the Palaeontological evidence. The common link is Permo-Carboniferous formations. My linking of plate tectonics with cultural similarities was a bit far fetched to say the least. However,I am intrigued by common points in the rituals.May be, such rituals are there every where in the world but in different forms.Regarding the picture, I suggest a mother weening the child ,which is universal depiction of mother hood. The fierceness is for protection of the child and attractiveness for propagation of our species. colin777au <colinr (AT) zip (DOT) com.au> wrote: Namaste. , "sitam_subba" <sitam_subba wrote: We are talking of a goddess and religion > with rituals involving sacrifices, powers of divination etc etc. This may > have something in common with Africa.May be,Kali worship was the common > religion of that large southern land mass from which Africa, South > America and Australia evolved. As per the theory of continental > drift,India actually belongs to this southern land mass and was pushed > northward due to tectonic movements.
