Guest guest Posted November 18, 2006 Report Share Posted November 18, 2006 Sri LakshmiNarayanahrdhayam [Translated into English by Dr. Saroja Ramanujam from the Tamil translation and commentary by Sri ArasANippAlai Gopala Desikan] DhyAnaslokam UdhyadhAdhithya sankAsam peethavAsam chathurbujam shankachakragadhA pANim DHyAyEth lakshmeepathim harim One should meditate on Hari, the Lord of Lakshmi,who is lustrous like the rising sun,wearing yellow silk garmant,having four arms,holding the conch, the disc and the mace in his hands. thrilOkyADHArachakram thadhupari kamaTam thathra chAnandhabOghee thanmaDHyE bhoomipadhmAnkusasikaradhaLam karNikAbhoothamErum thathTHam shAnthamurthim manimayamakutam kundalOdhbhAsithAngam lakshmeenArAyaNAkhyam sarasijanayanam santhatham chinthayAmah Let us meditate on lakshmeenArAyaNa, whose eyes are like lotuses, whose form is peaceful, shining with jewelled crown and ear ornaments on His body, who is inside the chakra which is the support of the threeworlds,the primeaval tortoise on it,the body of sesha in it, in the middle of which is the earth and lotus ankusa, Meru on the top at athe centre of the lotus. 1.nArAyaNah paramjyothirAthmA nArayaNah parah nArAyaNah parambrahma nArAyaNanamOsthuthE Narayana is the supreme light; Narayana is the supreme self (while the jiva is the lowerself);Narayana is the supreme brahman. My salutations to You, Narayana. 2. nArAyaNah parO dhEvO DHAthA nArAyaNah parah nArAyaNah parO DHAthA nArAyaNa namOsthu thE Narayana is the supreme deity;Narayana is the supreme creator;Narayana is the supreme support; My salutations to You Narayana. 3.nArayanah param DHAma DhyAnam narAyanah parah nArAyanah parO dharmO nArayana namOsthuthe Narayana is the supreme abode ; Narayana is the object of meditation;Narayana is the supreme dharma; my salutations to Narayana. 4.nArAyana paro dhEvO vidhyA nArAyanah parah visvam nArAyaNassAkshAth narAyaNa namosthu thE Narayana is the highest deity; Narayana is the highest learning;Narayana is the Universe in reality; My salutations to Narayana. 5.nArAyaNAth viDhirjAthO jAthO nArAyaNAth bhavah jAthO nArAyanAdhindhrO nArAyaNa namOsthu thE The creator, Brahma, originated from Narayana; from Narayana Siva came and from Narayana came Indhra; My salutations to Narayana. 6.RavirnArAyaNasthEjah chandhrO nArAyaNo mahah vahnirnArAyaNassAkshAthnArAyaNa namOsthu thE The brilliance of Narayana is the sun and the moon is the light of Narayana; The fire is Narayana Himself; My salutations to Narayana. 7.nArAyaNa upAsyassyAth gururnArAyaNah parah nArAyanah parO bhoDHo nArAyaNanamOsthuthE Narayana is to be meditated; Narayana is the supreme guru;Narayana is the highest knowledge; My salutations to Narayana. 8.nArAyaNah phalam mukhyam siddhirnArAyanassukham harirnArAyaNassuddhih nArAyaNa namOsthuthe Narayana is the main goal (fruit )to be acieved.Narayna gives joy.He is the success. Narayana ,the Lord Hari, is purity (His namasankirthana will remove sins and make one pure) Saltutions to Narayana. 9.nigamAvEdhithAnantha kalyANAguNavAriDHE nArAyananamasthEsthu narakArNava thAraka. Salutations to you, Oh Narayana,The ocean of the innumerable auspicious qualities declared by the vedas, and the deliverer from the sea called hell. 10.janmamrthyujarAvyAdhipArathanthryAdhibhissadhA dhOshairasprshtaroopAya nArAyaNa namOsthu thE Salutations to you who is never touched by the defects such as birth, death,old age, disease etc. rising out of bondage.(Except the Lord, all other beings from Brahma till a blade of grass are affected by these.) 11.vEdhasAshtrArThavijnAna sADhyabhakthyEkagOchara nArAyaNa namasthEsthu mAmudDHara bhavArNavAth I bow to you, who is comprehended only by devotion arising out of the knowledge of the purport of vedas and sasthras.Rescue me from the sea of samsara. 12.nithyAnandha mahOdhAra parathpara jagathpathE nArAyaNa namOsthEsthu mOksha sAmrAjyAdhAyinE Salutations to you , Narayana, who is everlasting bliss, supremely benevolent, higher than the highest,the Lord of the universe and the one who gives mOksha. 13.Abrahmasthambaparyantham akhilAthma mahAsraya sarvabhoothAthmabhoothAthman nArAyaNanamOsthu the Salutations to you,Narayana, who is the self of all from Brahma till a blade of grass and the abode of all, and the inner self of the all the individual selves of all beings. 14.pAlithAsEshalOkAya puNyasravaNakirthana nArAyaNa namasthesthu praayOdhakasAyinE Salutations to you,Narayana, the protector of all the worlds, to hear or say whose nama is meritorious,who is sleeping in the milky-ocean at the time of deluge. 15. nirastha sarvadhOshAya bhakthyAdhiguNa dhAyinE nArAyaNanamasthEsthu thvAm vinA na hi mE gathih Salutations to you, Narayana, who removes all defects and bestows qualities like devotion. I do not have any other refuge than you. 16.dharmArTha kama mOkshAkhyapurushArThapradhAyinE nArAyaNanamasthEsthu punasthEsthu namO namah salutation again and again, to you, Narayana, who is the provider of the purushArTHas, dharma, arTha . kAma and mOksha. The above verses are for the purpose of surrendering to the Lord through bhakthi and prapatthi in order to get rid of the worldly ties that give birth and attain Moksha.
