Guest guest
In the Puranas, Brahmaji has a very minor role. The planet Brihaspati, though a teacher of the Gods, also isnt that important. But the Vedas dont mention Brahma at all. In the Vedas, Bramha isnt a God, but the Word(Om or any othr Beej mantra). It is the original Word that created the Universe, & can create new things. The Force that controls the Word is Brihaspati. Since the Word & the person who controls it arent separate, they are called Brahamaspati, who is a very important Vedic Deity. Brahmaspati is the force that creates with the power of the Word, or mantra. As such he is another name for Ganesh, who in later Tantric legends has the same role. In fact, Dr R L Kashyap has even shown a verse in the Rig Veda that calls Brahaspati "Ganpati", Gan is the assembly of Gods, pati means master. So Ganpati has the same role of Brihspati, being the Teacher of Gods. Acc to Puranas as well Ganpati is the 1st God to be worshipped- this makes sense as he is the Master of Mantra, & without his blessing no puja will work. By the time of the Puranas, however, Brahma, Brihaspti and Ganesh(or Ganpati as he is also called in some places) has become separate Gods, with their own legends. The planet so Brahaspati, the guru of gods is different than Brahmaspati. I am surprised to find, that though Brahma has a very important role...to create and start the universe, is not really worshipped by any one !! All over the world there is only one temple of brahmaa, (in Pushkar- Rajasthan)..and I hv never met anyone worshipping Brhamaa or any fasting or festival in his name....isn't it a little being ungrateful by us. Shiva the destroyer, whose work is to come in the end ..to destroy the world..has innumerable temples and millions of followers...and brahmaa is so much ignored. What is the real reason behind this...# with love
