Guest guest
Sat Nam Dharam could you help me with this question? I have the recipe for yoga tea that is from Jagan Nath Singh, which I got from www.sahej.com/yogi_tea.html. Whole Foods does not sell the premixed yoga tea any more. I just made my first batch of tea about three weeks ago. I am finding that the recipe is way too stronge for me. I would like to know if there is a way to brake down the recipe into smaller proportions, especial the cinnamon and ginger. Is it OK to use 8 sicks of cinnamon and just a 1/2 of cup of ginger? Any help would be well appreciated. I really love my yoga tea in the morning and I do not want to have to start drinking coffee again. Guest guest
Sat Nam Guru Sadhana Seva, In Yogi Bhajan's _The Golden Temple Vegetarian Cookbook_ it gives the following ingredients for smaller quantities. My adaptations (I am not an expert <g>) are in parentheses. per cup: 10 ounces water 3 whole cloves 4 whole green cardamom pods, cracked 4 whole black peppercorns 1/2 stick cinnamon (I use 3" sticks) 1/4 tsp. black tea (I don't know if it's kosher but I use decaf green tea) 1/2 cup milk (I use unsweetened Silk or Edensoy soy milk, and usually less than 1/2 cup; some here have extolled almond milk in yogi tea) 2 slices fresh ginger root, optional (but really good!) I hope this helps. I usually multiply by 4 and make a quart. For economy, I sometimes save the spices, add water, and cook it again for a second batch, but I don't try to get a second quart out of it, usually 2 more cups. Please feel free to correct me if anyone sees a mistake I may be making. <s> A related question: I would like to know if the last step of bringing back to a boil after adding the milk is important when using non-dairy milk. It's a lot quicker if one doesn't do this. <s> Thanks to everybody for being here! Take care and have a wonderful happy day, Sat Darshan Kaur
Guest guest
Hey, does Yoga Tech have this cookbook? I am in the transition of becoming vegetarian and it's going GREAT! You guys don't even have to post this to the list cause you probably all know the answer. I'd love to have that. Guest guest
Sat Nam ji, I'm out of town and not checking email as much as usual. If you're used to the boxed tea you WILL find the traditional recipe strong, as the the boxed tea is not at all strong, to me. As a matter of fact when only boxed tea is available I would use two tea bags per cup of tea. All that aside, why not simply increase the amount of water OR, as you have already proposed, cut the ingredients in half? I wouldn't encourage changing the proportions, generally speaking, but maybe you own constitution is trying to tell you something. One size may not fit all. Incidently, I know several folks who make an "evening version" without the black tea. It's much lighter, and very much like the boxed tea, to me. By the way, all Jagan Nath Singh did with the recipe was make it so that one could measure out the ingredients with tablespoons and teaspoons, and not have to count out each clove, peppercorn, etc. by hand to make a bigger batch of this blessid liquid.
