NAMAH Shivaya,Amarnath,

Do you recommend both Dr. Furman's book and DVD? Or is

the DVD enough to get the general gist of what he is

teaching?

S

namaste stacee,

this reply is in regard to our discussion of recommendations for your friend who has ovarian cancer.

Dr Fuhrman’s DVD( “Greatest Diet on Earth” 110 minutes ) is more current than the book and may be enough; it depends on your friend and her approach; Louise Hay, for instance, said she read tons of books when she was diagnosed with cancer. but in this case, maybe the DVD is enough if listened to several times and notes taken.

Actually the DVD should give more than a gist; It’s packed with scientific results( for inspiration and faith ) and may be hard to digest on first viewing. Especially the first part of the lecture; then it gets to more practical info ~ what to eat what not to eat, etc; also the Q&As at the end are helpful. Viewing several times and taking notes is recommended.

There is also a lot of info on his two websites www.drfuhrman.com and www..diseaseproof.com

But, I would start with the DVD; watch it a few times; each time we watch we usually absorb only about 15%. And go on from there. It really depends on the person.

Also if possible a phone consultation with Dr Fuhrman would be helpful, if this is the way your friend wants to go; because, for a specific illness Dr. Fuhrman will probably have more specific recommendations.

Let me see if the following helps?

----------------------

I could say that the gist of Joel Fuhrman’s diet is :

Eat two pounds of green leafy vegetables per day;

one pound cooked and one pound raw.

---------------------

NOTE: DR FUHRMAN DOES NOT RECOMMEND ALL RAW DIET; HALF COOKED AND HALF RAW.

This is similar to Louise Hay’s diet which she said was mostly GREEN Vegetables and very little else.

If one googles or goodsearch on (ovarian cancer green vegetables) there is much support for the GREEN VEGETABLES approach complimenting either the conventional therapies or alternative approaches and including spiritual life changes.

The reason GREENS are emphasized so much and why Joel Fuhrman recommends so much( 2 lbs/day ) is:

GREENS have the most nutrients per calorie; nothing else comes even close; and, greens are very detoxifying on a continuous daily basis; etc, etc

So, to maximize the amount of nutritional healing from (pranic) food( not supplements ), we need a LOT of fresh unprocessed green vegetables; and a LOT in this case is not a problem as far as the calories are concerned because GREENS have very very few calories.

The GREENS should be supplemented with:

Blueberries( 1cup/day ) recognized more and more as a high nutrient “superfood”

Flax Seeds( 1TBLS/day ) and 6 Walnuts will provide the essential beneficial Omega 3 oils.

A variety of other veggies and fruit, and ½ to 1 cup of legumes will add to the diversity of healing nutrients.

That’s the diet!

What about some wholesome grains?

Only needed if you get too skinny on above highly nutritious low caloric diet.

In the book, Joel shows some charts that this diet does indeed provide almost all the required nutrients from wholesome food and not supplements. And on DVD comments that some expensive health food supplements provide only a very small fraction of nutrients found in say one pound of spinach, etc.

Q? Are ANY supplements needed?

Yes, but just a few:

Vitamin B12 and D.

To provide these and some insurance since we may not be able to maintain the above diet strictly all the time( like when traveling especially to India ), Dr Fuhrman has created his own small line of essential, safe and affordable supplements( Gentle Care, Osteo-SUN, DHA Purity~omega 3 ).

Dr Fuhrman’s patients get well soon and don’t need to come back to his office for years on end. So, he is trying some educational approaches on www.drfuhrman.com with a small membership fee. I recently joined for $70( usually it’s $90/year ); this way I get discounts on supplements, access to forum, healthy times newsletter, etc.

Note to Linda and others with problems digesting raw GREENS:

1) try cooked greens

2) try blended cooked or raw

3) try juicing greens

4) try wheat grass juice ~ “Chlorophyll can protect us from carcinogens like no other food or medicine can. It acts to strengthen the cells, detoxify the liver and bloodstream, and chemically neutralize the polluting elements themselves.” Ann Wigmore, The Wheatgrass Book (Avery Publishing, Wayne, NJ, 1985)

5) try a liquid chlorophyll supplement

6) try GREEN Powder supplements; there are many on the market; we use the EarthRise Green Blends; these are also useful to take with you to India; at Amritapuri bookshop Spirulina is available.
