Guest guest
#7 ~ Amma's Words : 0307."No religion can exist disassociated from Nature. Religion is the link that binds mankind to Nature. Religion removes the ego in man, enabling him to know and experience his oneness with Nature." - Ammachi, Man and Nature, p18 0349."Children, a rishi's stillness of mind results from the total dropping of the mind. In whatever circumstance he is, the rishi's mind is always still, irrespective of time and place. He goes behind the mind stuff and attains the state of `no-mind'. The ego dies in him, and thus he is egoless, completely free from the grip of desires. … "Completely emptying the mind, the rishi has fully unburdened the weight of the ego. He is completely free because nothing weighs him down. He is like a mirror, pure and clear as crystal, with no images of its own. If you see any images, they are all reflections, and reflections do not belong to the mirror. The mirror simply reflects. It neither owns nor disowns anything. … "Stillness can come to a farmer as he fantasizes about his crop and the immense harvest that he is going to reap. An ordinary lover who contemplates his beloved can also have the same experience. But these people are all still egocentric. They are still on the mental plane. They are all overburdened. Their heads are full of thoughts, ideas and plans for the future. Once they come out of their so- called stillness, which does not last long, they are once again the same old small ego." - Vol.5, p17 0352."A scientist keeps on adding to his existing ego. He gathers more and more knowledge, more and more information, which is nothing but an act of inflating the ego. However, a rishi is completely empty. He becomes like a corpse in the river. He lets the river of life carry him anywhere it likes. The scientist is externally full, full of knowledge about the world. The rishi is internally full, full of the experience of Oneness with the Supreme Absolute. The scientist sees many; the rishi sees One. The scientist is only a part of existence, while the rishi is the whole of existence. While the scientist burdens himself with facts and figures, the rishi becomes empty so that all knowledge can pass through him but cannot affect his experience of Oneness. While the scientist limits and narrows his vision, the rishi expands and embraces the entire universe." - Vol.5, p18 ------------------------ "In olden days everyone practised truth. The wife lived for the husband and the husband for the wife. They had the fruit of truth and self-sacrifice. They had an all-surrendering attitude, courage, love, righteousness, and justice. " - Vol. 1 p346 ------------------------ Om Hrim Namah Sivaya, Dear brothers and sisters, Amma says it's good to know the nature of things and to use them properly according to their functionality. Guest guest
Re: EGO ~ Amma (#8) on the nature of ego : 0361.Supplicate Him. Pour out your heart to Him. Prayer is nothing but emptying the mind, ridding oneself of the vasanas. Prayer is nothing but accepting His supremacy and remembering your own nothingness~I am nothing~I am nobody~You are everything. Prayer teaches humility. You are seeking His refuge, His love, His grace, compassion and help, in order to reach Him. You are calling out, trying to reach out. Prayer is surrendering the ego. - Vol.5, p30 0362."Prayer is surrendering the ego. From deep within you are trying to reach out. You are trying to become expansive. You tell the Lord, `O Lord, I have no power. I thought I had, but now I understand that I am helpless. I am in the dark. I cannot see. I am nothing... Guide me, lead me, help me. That was my ego which made me think I was something great. Now I realize that I am helpless. Without Your grace I cannot be anything...' What is this? This is exposing yourself as a totally helpless creature without Him and His Grace. This is humbling yourself. This is the genuine way to exhaust the vasanas. There should be the awareness of helplessness; one should feel one's helplessness. Helplessness will make one humble. Humility in turn will help one get God's grace as well as human love." - Vol.5, p30 ------------------------ "In olden days everyone practised truth.
