Guest guest
Recognize and Avoid Bogus Lakshmi Conch THIS is the reality of Sacred Lakshmi Conch, so precious and dear to Vishnu. Now, in this Kali Yuga, bogus is taken as real. There is only one real Lakshmi Shank, and that is Valampuri Turbinella Pyrum from Indian Seas. This shell is sacred, very rare and valuable, costing hundreds of thousands of Rupees. But certain dealers are selling another type of shell, Lightning Whelk (busycon contrarium) from North America, a common Whelk shell, and calling as a SHANK (Conch), as "Valampuri" or "Dakshinvarti Lakshmi Shank". This is either ignorance of the truth OR fraud. Either way the result is the same, i.e., getting a BOGUS Valampuri. BUYER BEWARE!!! The list below is a partial list and will be expanded. NOTE: Genuine Lakshmi Shanks ONLY come from the Indian Ocean between Burma, India and Sri Lanka. They are sold amongst knowledgeable devotees for between Rs 3,000 t0 Rs 6,000 per gram. They are sold by gram weight with price depending on quality. Average weight is 100 grams (about 6 inches). They MUST have 3-7 ridges in the conch cavity; and beware of phoney ridges put onto Lightning Whelk shells using plaster or epoxy. Rarity of genuine Lakshmi Shank is about 1/10,000 shanks BTW: If one cannot afford the costly Valampuri right-side opening Shank then they should use the normal Idampuri (left side opening) Shank. All Shanks are the pure Vedic bone, but Lightning Whelk shells are not pure, and should not be called “Lakshmi Conch”, which is fraud, and they should not be used in puja in place of real sacred Shank (Turbinella Conch), left OR right side opening. Lighting Whelk shells are not sacred and are impure for Vishnu Upasana.
