Allen Barr was soldier in a war

He was about to round a corner not far

Allana Barr was his daughter back home

About to hand the teacher a drawing she drew

Ali was a young man, with local passions and a gun

His mother Allisa recited prayers and stayed at home

Allen Barr¹s wife was named Sharon Barr

But he just lovingly called her just only ³Shar²

He rounded the corner, Ali caught site

Allana stood up and held her drawing tight

Sharon was at the base veterans day parade

Allisa was at home, absorbed in religious cherade

Allana gave the picture to her teacher and said

I painted a big heart called daddys heart, it¹s red

And it says I love you daddy,

Which is why its called daddys heart, she said

Because I love my daddy, and he¹s at war

Save Ali, he¹s so young, and he¹s my only son.

I love you Allen, thought Sharon, I wish you could be here,

I wish I could hold you, as she wiped away the tear

Ali lifted his gun, at the American

The American¹s saw Ali, and began to lift the same

Allana jumped up and down as the teacher said she won

Allen fell back, as the bullet did it¹s job

Allens heart bled

Allanas ³Daddys Heart² won

Allanas dad bled

He was shot but not dead

Ali¹s heart pounded,

He started to run

An american bullet

Ended his fun

The kids shouted ³Allana Barr²

Ali whispered Allah Akbar

Allen moaned ³oh my shar²

Sharon thought ³Allan Barr²

Allisa prayed Allah Akbar

Everyone lost a loved one that day

Two bullets, two families two countries, two ways

There were many losers on that day

Not only the dead but their families who stay

There was only one winner, that Barr little girl

Who with her red picture did win in her world

The rest who were crying were losers all

For they either were dead or crying over the fall

And the moral is simple

Big loving hearts are winners

Shooting guns makes only losers

We must find a world beyond war

Dear Richard,

I hope this message reaches the war-zealots who can be found in every corner of this world.

The true strength and bravery lies in efforts to maintain peace. The success of a ruler of a nation is judged not by the innumerable wars he fought, but the number of wars he prevented.

There is no use making cannon fodder out of young able-bodied men just to fulfill whims and personal ambitions of someone whom we elected as our leader.

Saddam, Osama, Bush, Hitler,......all are different faces of same immortal Ravana who thrives on bloodshed. War is his business, his only source of livelihood. He knows nothing else, can do nothing else. The sooner we realize this, the faster we will make him powerless.

Thanks again for this poem.

Regards,

Ashutosh
