Guest guest
Angel, there is NO ASTROLOGICAL BASIS for it,. may be u have read a Tamil's astro site somewhere there was a translation error may be Tamil film scripts have popularised that amavasya is most auspicious and no date, time or anything needs to be seen WHICH IS FALSE AND IRRATIONAL astrologically. as u will never find this in Kalaprakishaka, Muhartha chintamani or Hora sara the major Muhurtha works. TN's saraswathi Library has a lot of great Sanskrit works kept in the locks as they feel it will glorify the Aryan culture. the great works we can never see many astrological works available to us in other languages are not there yet in tamil Jataka Alankara, jataka chandrika are the ones we hear from them. now some works are being done and sure this misconception will also be covered some day-god willing. BUT IF U FOLLOW THIS sure it is failure look at Vajpayess 13 day Govt was sownr on an amavasya. Gowda too over on the next Purnima [also best avoided but better than amavasya] last some months at least. max can be un 2 Lagnas it is good Mesha, vrischika that too in 2 months of a yr THIS IS LIKE ASHWATHAMA HATAH [KUNJARAHA] If kujnarah is silent or not loud enough to be heard, some mistake has got down the public from TN alone they also have popularised the Rahu Kala puja which again is film scripts based and not in any shastra will u see any temple open during ./30- 3 pm? or 3 to 4.30 pm no only film scripts did it and is thriving by the unscrupulous ones in some temples. THIS MESSAGE IS NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE, CULTURE OR LANGUAGE IT IS A FACT SHEET AS IT STANDS. I will gladly change my stand if the scriptural authoroty is given for this as no other state follow this, when all other systems are common, stars, rasis, aspects, yogas etc. On 11/20/06, angel <angelgoel > wrote: > > Hi all > I read on one of sites that today is good day to do > charity and daan (it is amavasya). > > many thanks > angel goel > =================== > > ________ > Sponsored Link > > Mortgage rates near 39yr lows. > $510k for $1,698/mo. Guest guest
Dear Prashant Sahab, Nice to see You on this Forum. I do not have any scripture or classics to quote. Neither am a authority to quote or proclaim, but since childhood I have seen Pundits who advise to donate on Amavasya and Purnima, Maybe because the lunar Vibrations cause problems for some people with weak Moon, and whatever reason may be,but people are charged mentally to donate foodgrains or whatever on these days, and some good definitely accrues by donation. And we have heard anna dana is the best dana, also clothes etc. This may be good especially for people born on Purnima or Amavasya, but again no proof as such for above comments. So what does it matter as long as this makes a person donate. Regarding Rahu Kalam, I have personally seen on various occassions that during span of this 1 and 1/2 hour, I used to recieve invariably calls from people asking for payments (Business payments), flights being delayed etc.if a person commences his journey to the airport or railway station during Rahu Kalam. Also many fights/arguments taking place during this time if one engages in extra talking with anyone. Once I asked my Uncle who is a very spiritual man from South India, and when I asked him what should one be doing during Rahu Kalam if I cannot start new work, or journey ,auspicious work, or make new transaction for any sales voluntarily, then what should a person do,as he cant waste his time doing nothing for fear, then My Uncle advised me that one shoulkd try to do Pooja/Prayers doing Rahu Kalam. He never said do any Rahu Kalam Pooja but said do any Prayers/recitations during this period. What is right or wrong God knows, but we have been brought up in this manner and deviation, with the imbibed knowledge does put some imaginary fears in ones mind. I look forward to more of your meaningful and helpful posts as I have witnessed in other Forums. regards, Bhaskar. jyotish-vidya, "astro desk" <astro.prashantkumar wrote: > > Angel, > > there is NO ASTROLOGICAL BASIS for it,. > > may be u have read a Tamil's astro site > somewhere there was a translation error may be Tamil film scripts have > popularised that > amavasya is most auspicious and no date, time or anything needs to be seen > WHICH IS FALSE AND IRRATIONAL astrologically. > > as u will never find this in Kalaprakishaka, Muhartha chintamani or Hora > sara the major Muhurtha works. > > TN's saraswathi Library has a lot of great Sanskrit works kept in the locks > as they feel it will glorify the Aryan culture. the great works we can never > see > > many astrological works available to us in other languages are not there yet > in tamil > Jataka Alankara, jataka chandrika are the ones we hear from them. now some > works are being done and sure this misconception will also be covered some > day-god willing. > > > BUT IF U FOLLOW THIS sure it is failure > > look at Vajpayess 13 day Govt was sownr on an amavasya. > Gowda too over on the next Purnima [also best avoided but better than > amavasya] last some months at least. > > max can be un 2 Lagnas it is good Mesha, vrischika that too in 2 months of a > yr > > THIS IS LIKE ASHWATHAMA HATAH [KUNJARAHA] If kujnarah is silent or not loud > enough to be heard, some mistake has got down the public from TN alone > > they also have popularised the Rahu Kala puja which again is film scripts > based and not in any shastra > will u see any temple open during ./30- 3 pm? or 3 to 4.30 pm no only film > scripts did it and is thriving by the unscrupulous ones in some temples. > > THIS MESSAGE IS NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE, CULTURE OR LANGUAGE IT IS A FACT SHEET > AS IT STANDS. > > I will gladly change my stand if the scriptural authoroty is given for this > as no other state follow this, when all other systems are common, stars, > rasis, aspects, yogas etc. > > > > > On 11/20/06, angel <angelgoel wrote: > > > > Hi all > > I read on one of sites that today is good day to do > > charity and daan (it is amavasya). > > > > many thanks > > angel goel > > =================== > > > > ________ > > Sponsored Link > > > > Mortgage rates near 39yr lows. > > $510k for $1,698/mo. Guest guest
Dear Angel, Prashant, Bhaskar and All, If I might add my thoughts here (I stand corrected if in error). I'm sure everyone knows the story about Karna (finding only gold and silver, but no food, when he ascended to the higher worlds) returning to this life (after prayers to Yama) to feed the Brahmins and the poor for the fourteen days of Mahalaya Paksha. Because of this (charity) it was ordained by Yama that offerings made during this period would benefit all departed souls. New Moon day (Amavasya) considered most auspicious in this regard. Feeding Brahmins etc. is part of the remedy (given by Parashara) for birth during Amavasya. http://jyotishvidya.com/ch86.htm I, of course, am not Hindu and certainly stand corrected if in error, but I can see the logic of considering charity (given on Amavasya) to be auspicious for departed souls, in the same way that remedial measures taken on behalf of a child born during Amavasya is auspicious...in that it alleviates the suffering associated with such a birth. Perhaps the controversy (confusion) lies in the use of the word 'auspicious'?? Best Wishes, Mrs. Wendy http://JyotishVidya.com jyotish-vidya ___ - "astro desk" <astro.prashantkumar > <jyotish-vidya> Monday, November 20, 2006 7:52 PM Re: today is amavasya and good day to do charity no 20/11 Angel, there is NO ASTROLOGICAL BASIS for it,. may be u have read a Tamil's astro site somewhere there was a translation error may be Tamil film scripts have popularised that amavasya is most auspicious and no date, time or anything needs to be seen WHICH IS FALSE AND IRRATIONAL astrologically. as u will never find this in Kalaprakishaka, Muhartha chintamani or Hora sara the major Muhurtha works. Guest guest
Dear Wendyji, At the same time let me also confess that this day of Amavasya is not considered as auspicious for many purposes like making any good purchases or starting anything anew etc. In fact as I am in Mutual Funds business today one client who wanted to put good money in investment told me after taking application Forms that we (His family elders) would decide tomorrow in which company to invest and how much. When I asked him why he said (And reminded me) that it was Amavasya today. Even for Dowsing (Pendulum-Teletherapy), we are advised by our teachers not to do on Full Moon Day and New Moon Day along with Saturday and few others.Because the reason given is that there is disturbance on the Earths magnetic field ,and there is possibility of getting wrong answers. regards, Bhaskar. jyotish-vidya, "Bhaskar" <bhaskar_jyotish wrote: > > Dear Wendyji, > > I Couldnt say it better. > Yes definitely offerings made on this day is connected with > the alleviation of sufferings by those born on this day. > Also advise is given,as you rightly said that this is good > (offerings of food )on these days to put the departed souls > at peace. In fact for Pitra Dosha many Pundits advise for > distribution of food to be done on Amavasyas. > > About auspicious or not. Guest guest
{Om Namo Narayanaya} Dear Wendy ji, Prashant, Bhaskar ji and all, Namaskar. Amavasya is considered an "auspicious" day in Tamil Nadu for being 'full' or 'whole' almost akin to pournami. Like when the moon is full, on this day the contrary. But Faith in the Divine or the Cosmic Power that rules can turn the negatives into positives, more so, "Yadbhavam Tad Bhavati". Otherwise how could the same day trun auspicious for some and inauspicious for the others. This is entirely my perception, nothing at all to quote from except my own experiences. Guest guest
Dear Prashant, Bhaskar and All, I believe, if we took the time to study, we would find more similarities in our various religions than differences. For example, 'All Souls Day' (day of the dead) is observed, according to the Catholic tradition, on 2nd Nov...unless that falls on a Sunday in which case it's observed on the 3rd. Perhaps (originally) this was associated with New Moon day but just 'fell-into' being the 2nd regardless of the phase of the Moon... I can't really say. On this day a special Mass is offered for the departed Souls in purgatory and, in the home, an altar is made with an offering of food upon it. It is believed that the dead partake of the food in spirit and the living eat it later. The offerings are beautifully arranged with flowers such as marigolds, which are the traditional flower of the dead. There is a candle placed for each dead soul, and they are adorned in some manner. Incense is also often used, and mementos, photos, and other remembrances of the dead also adorn the ofrenda (altar). Guest guest
Dear All, My two cents on amavasya and rahu kalam... first amavasya is starting of new moon phase (growth) and it is a belief in tamilnadu that all the works started from amavasya day will grow and probably we may not have proper evidence as it is age old belief. I read long back the reasoning for this belief in Q&A session of sakthi vikatan by the seshadrinatha swamigal, retired principal of sanskrit college, madras. I dont think just absence of evidence or shastra will make this belief wrong unless we prove scientifically otherwise. second on rahu kalam, it is essentially dedicated to worship of devi in tamilnadu and many of temple kept it open for the devotees to perform the rahu kala puja and if u see really, only durga or sarabeshwara sannadhi is kept open and not the main deity or sacro sanctum. India is very vast with diverse cultures, customs and beliefs and definitely there will be bound to be differences in practices. But ultimately it all depends on environment one lives and sure u know it well. sriganeshh jyotish-vidya, "nalini2818" <nalini2818 wrote: > > {Om Namo Narayanaya} > > Dear Wendy ji, Prashant, Bhaskar ji and all, > Namaskar. > Amavasya is considered an "auspicious" day in Tamil Nadu for > being 'full' or 'whole' almost akin to pournami. > Like when the moon is full, on this day the contrary. > But Faith in the Divine or the Cosmic Power that rules can turn the > negatives into positives, more so, "Yadbhavam Tad Bhavati". > Otherwise how could the same day trun auspicious for some and > inauspicious for the others. > This is entirely my perception, nothing at all to quote from except > my own experiences. > Regards > Nalini > > jyotish-vidya, "astro desk" > <astro.prashantkumar@> wrote: > > > > Dear Wendy > > u r right > > I have said similarly on JR group but not in as much dept as u > have, it is > > good esp as non Hindu as u get to know more for knowing and then > post we > > take it for ganted. > > and jsut gavea superfical cover-few lines on it > > > > On 11/20/06, Wendy Vasicek <jyotish@> wrote: > > > > > > Dear Angel, Prashant, Bhaskar and All, > > > > > > If I might add my thoughts here (I stand corrected if in error). > I'm sure > > > everyone knows the story about Karna (finding only gold and > silver, but no > > > > > > food, when he ascended to the higher worlds) returning to this > life (after > > > > > > prayers to Yama) to feed the Brahmins and the poor for the > fourteen days > > > of > > > Mahalaya Paksha. Guest guest
Dear Mrs. Wendy, The day "amavasya" is considered a favourable day (let me not use the word 'auspicious') for certain ceremonies/performing rituals/performing certain karmas. A person performs "Darpanam" for the Pitrus on this day. But this day is not considered favourable or forbidden for certain other karmas or for certain other Muhurthas. But generally when the person cannot wait to do certain things (not getting other favourable muhurtas according to his own chart) he can start the work after amavasya. The astrological basis for this is you know pretty well that Moon is going away from Sun from this day onwards. In other words, the Moon gains its strength - Paksha Phala. So far as the Charity is concerned, that is the best remedy one can do to ward off his evil karmas of past and present that could be done on any day the moment he wishes. It should not be postponed. (The mind is always "Chanchal") Generally, you cannot often make up your mind to do charity. Hence it needs no muhurtha. Regards, C.S. Ravindramani. PS: "Darpanam" = offering water with black "Sesame" seeds with Kusa leaves for the Pitrus (fore fathers- Spinda - i.e. forefather's of seven generations) on this day. "Chanchal" = restless
