Sat Nam dear everyOne,

It's really good to be back on the list again, warm greetings to all!

Finally after 14 years of wishing my dream of going to India is coming

true and I'm off in 3 weeks time.

I'm posting to ask if anyone has any helpful advice for a first time

traveller to India: especially on keeping well, things to take etc.

(Mostly I will be travelling around the northern parts: Delhi,

Dharamsala, Varanasi, Bodh Gaya and Amristar)

Also, one of my planned visits is the Golden Temple, are there any

other sites of the Guru's that you can recommend?

blessings and thanks...

In Oneness,

1. Eat an onion a day (Raw, chopped up with yogurt if

you like) 40 days prior to trip. A great protective

practice.

2. Take you malaria medicine religiously (just like

sadhana!)

3. Be careful of the water and ANY foodstuffs bought

on the street. Bottled water is available but some may

not be properly sanitized (by that I mean some of the

bottles are filled from a regular tap and sold to the

unsuspecting). Carry purification tablets and use them

if you are unsure of the source of water.

4. Be up to date on your shots.

5. Know who is cooking for you. Your hosts should be

trustworthy. Recommended restaurants are fine. Be

careful of street vendors.

India is a different culture from the West. In a lot

of ways its better and in some ways much worse. This

is a spiritual journey or yatra you are on. If you do

get sick, don't panic. Just follow the medical advice

given by those you trust. Enjoy!

Thank you Karta Purkh Singh. On the Malaria subject. I wasn't going

to take any tablets as I've heard such mixed reports about it and that

it can cause a lot of problems. Also, I thought Northern India would

be cold thus less mosquitos in December/January.

blessings of deep peace,

Sat Nam,

I know a couple of people who took tea tree oil and put a couple of drops in water daily. Definitely bless all your food and water. And of course, follow all the precautions set out by Karta Purkh.

Sat Nam Everyone,

I tell you a great logic to stay fit when

you are in india. It worked for me at least.

No doubt I am an indian, but as I came back after

many year and I was in rishikesh, I fell sick.

I had runing nose, fever and bit more stuff.

First 2 days I didnt care about it. but then

i went to a doctor Dr Ravi at the back side

of Parmarth Asharm. I felt bit fine for one day.

I was feeling like crying.

Then next day I thought why I am feeling like this.

can sickness really make me sick. Why my mind bothers

too much about it. Why Why Why. If everyone can stay

in this weather, why cant I. After that I didnt

feel any problem. I am fine. My nose runs a bit, then

I go for walk or joging and its fine now.

So dont give too much importance to the problms there.

You wont have any problem. Be a strong man. Life has

bigger problems than just stupid sickness.

I love when my body slows down with fever. I become a

lazy pazy. I know it sounds stupid. But its fine with

me now.

Anyway take with you whatever you want. Indian doctors

always give very storng medicine. So it might give

u trouble.

Love, peace and no fever

Sat Nam,

I have just got back from two months in India & can add the

following to the great advice already given -

*Wash your hands always before eating, there are basins with soap in

every restaurant you go to or you can by antibacterial gel which can

be used without water....

*Eat cooked food only apart from anything that can be peeled (&

remember wash your hands before peeling)

*I didn't take anti malarials in the north & yes, when cold this is

not an issue. I took anti malarials whilst in the South. Everywhere

that is a mozzy area will pretty much have a fan or net above the

bed which keeps them away anyway.

*I can also add, nothing we had seen, read or experienced before

prepared us for the journey we had. A lot of our family & friends

had spent extended periods in India & gave us lots of advice but

nothing prepared us for the reality! It has finally made me let go &

let GOD.

*Don't give the groups of kids who hassle you for money any, it

really will feed a negative system.

Many blessings for your journey, I cannot tell you what an amazing

experience I had whilst there. The effects of which are still v much

continuing. We had planned to go to similar areas as you but when we

got there the universe took us in a different direction & gave us

what we needed instead of what we wanted - wahe guru!

In love & light,

Gurubala
