Guest guest
A) ...six brilliant stars arose in Vraja-mandala and were serving Gauracandra's Visva-Vaisnava-Raja-Sabha. B) ...six brilliant stars arose in Vraja-mandala and were engaged in the service of Gauracandra's Visva-Vaisnava-Raja-Sabha. Is there a difference between serving and being engaged in the service of? To me, the latter suggests being deputed by someone else to serve.

"were serving" indicates over time, so there's no danger of misunderstanding casual service in your olther example. "Were engaged" doesn't necessarily indicate someone else engaged them. But it sounds like "had arisen" would be more accurate tense-wise.
