thirucciRRambalam

Meaning:

It wears deer, axe, darkness residing in the holy throat

and crescent. It is the Light That appeared in the flood

for the divines, sat in the thirukkazumalam and stood

at my mind.

Notes:

1. Lord shiva and shakti appeared in a boat at cIrkAzi

during one deluge, thus giving it the name thONipuram.

2. While the world was yet to be created and brahma

and viShNu wondered from where they came from,

Lord shiva appeared from the water as the Source

for all. Since the Lord first appeared to the divines

through water, Lord shiva is also called nArAyaNa

(nAra ayaNa - through water)
