Dear List,

The news has just sadly been broken that Gordon Brown's second son James Fraser Brown, has cystic fibrosis.

James Fraser Brown was born 17th July 2006, at Edinburgh Royal hospital, 08:00 am GMT (09:00am BST)

Cystic fibrosis is the most commonly diagnosed condition of one in five in white European babies, and currently life expectancy is thirty to forty years only. The Chancellor is hoping that gene research will uncover cures that will extend his son's life.

The Brown's now live above number ten Downing Street, the official residence of the Prime Minister, due to the need for additional security for the young family.

Does anyone see in his natal chart any hope for the prolongation of the little baby's life, and the removal of the condition?

best wishes

My prasna chart says that the baby's life would be prolonged to the extent

possible, no doubt about that. Lots of purvapunya issues but there's a

shubhakartari yoga of the lagna.

Isn't hard to see Jupiter holding the key; don't know how to prescribe a

Caucasian remedy, though.

Thanks Rampriya. I do think there is a chance that new scientific findings will help, but as you say purvapunya is an issue, especially for Gordon Brown.

best wishes

Dear Margaret,

With Jupiter occupying a Kendra and aspecting the 8th bhava, let us hope

the child will have a good length of life. The fact that he has the

problems at birth are in line with Moon occupying the 8th bhava, but

being lagnesha, should give a good physique when the child recovers.

Dear Chandrashekhar,

One of the two of us has the chart wrong. I get Leo lagna (not another!) and

guess what? The 8th lord Jupiter, lagna lord Sun and and natural life karaka

Moon all in marana avasthas. Sun is furthermore conjunct pachaka Saturn and

a potent retrograding malefic Merc. Jup is hemmed between Mandi and Gulika.

Vimshottari dasas: The kid's in the throes of the Merc dasa now. 2013-2020

will almost be a repeat dasa since Ketu's soloing in Virgo.

Little cheer,

Ramapriya

Dear Ramapriya,

I did make a blunder. Put 17th June instead of 17th July in the data

field. Sure signs of growing old. I am sorry to have bothered everyone.

Anyway, the problems is more prominent as here Moon conjoins Rahu and

still in the 8th and balarishta is there, no doubt. But with Rahu there,

there should be some doubts about the diagnosis, no matter that it is

done by the best of British brains.

From 3 pair method, we get three different longevities and so choose

the HL Lagna pair period which is middle life term. However I would

worry something like sepsis developing on surgical intervention, if my

interpretation is right.

Dear Chandrashekhar ji,

For James Brown, TOB 17/08/2006 0800 HRS( 1:0:0: East of GMT), Edinburgh, Scotland

It is Leo rising, with Mars in Lagan, Lgnesh is in 12 H with Sa and reg Me.

Ju is in 3 H and is aspecting 9H of Bhagya.

Mo is in 8H conjunct with Ra, in Meen rashi ( Jal tatwa) which may explain his having Cystic Fibrosis( drying up of secretions) since birth.

There is also a partial grah malika yog beginning from Venus( thus affliction at birth) and ending with Ju.

The key thus lies with Ju which will be the guiding force in his life.

This is the chart I get, is it not the right one?

Please guide me if I am wrong.

Dear Sharat,

As I told Ramapriya, I entered the month wrong. Leo rising is right. My

other comments are on that mail. rahu conjunct moon in 8th to me shows

difficulty in diagnosing the actual cause of the problem the child is

facing.

Dear Sharat, Chandrashekhar and Rampriya,

Thank you for all responses they were very interesting to read, I haven't yet had time to study this in full, though in light of what I said about Gordon Brown's chart earlier I am not surprised there should be these afflictions, though clearly science makes many advances.

I can't see from these planets positions how we would predict his father being such a major figure in the government either?

The lagna is 10 46 leo with Lahiri and calc by PL6, and I would have held out more hope had there been a benefic in kendra, though obviously Mars in lagna as ninth lord must bring some benefits surely. The Sun is very afflicted by Saturn and Mer, very weak in 12fth and moving from water to fire sign also which is not a good time so many stays in hospital are omened I think.

Apparently with cystic fibrosis children need a lot of physiotherapy, I don't know much about the disease, but clearly it is not one which is easily thrown off.

Any other comments about this chart or of those with similar conditions most welcome

best wishes

Dear Margaret,

This is a birth that is in Lagna Gandanta. So till he is 7 years of age,

it might be wise not to comment too much on the probable state of his

health.

Lord of 9th Mars is pretty strong in Navamsha besides the Natal chart

and the 10th from 9th is aspected by Sun and Saturn aspects the same as

rasi lord. Lord of 9th of the father aspects the Lagna. So father being

pretty powerful can be surmised, I would say.

Dear Chandrashekar

Yes I think you are right, the move from a water sign to fire for asc lord is pretty ominous, however I wanted to know if anyone on the list had seen chards where this had not been too detrimental which is why I posted it.

I am currently researching charts where children did die before six years old but not many of them had gadanta, so it is not a final factor I think, also some children who might have died but survived this bad event did have gadanta, so again this is not always a reliable indication to longevity neither is the balarishta yoga.

Dear Margaret,

There'd be droves with lagna in gandanta and it certainly isn't the only

reliable indication.

Factors to consider include, but are not limited to, (a) benefic aspects on

the lagna and navamsa lagna and (b) benefic aspects on the lords of the rasi

and navamsa lagna. Look out for Paka Lagna too, especially for the influence

of a waxing Moon, and either of Jupiter/Venus's association depending on the

lagna lord's natural relationship with them.

My younger son (24th July 03, Bangalore, 7.52 am) has his lagna in the drink

with lagna lord Sun in marana avastha in Cancer, and I'm hoping that the

presence of an exalted Jup there would winkle him out of any trouble (at the

moment, he's feisty and pink)!

Cheers,

Ramapriya

Dear Margaret,

You are right it is not only Gandanta that is responsible for early

death. Moon in 8th bhava and afflicted with Rahu, Lord of the Lagna in

12th with the 6th lord and Lagna itself in Papakartari yoga have had a

cumulative effect as the dasha at birth was also Mer-Mar-Ven-Rah-Mercury.

Dear Rampryai,

I have to confess that even my favourite technique of benefic in Kendra is failing in my investigation!!!!

However certainly your reference to eclipse points is something I might already be finding a trigger in these charts, and is providing a learning curve.

Venus and Jupiter are a major factor but Mars is a massive factor also along with these two others

Cancer and Cancer lagna has rules of its own I have found over my many years of research projects and is a research project in its own right especially if Jupiter is there , and it does not always provide the security one would expect from its exalted position, though in your son's case I am sure it will hold true.

'Paka lagna' is not a phrase that is known to me, and you and Chandrashekar continually challenge my understanding of jyotish with your use of terminology that is new to me!!!!!!

Feisty and pink sounds very cuddly and loveable though ---so not new to me!!

best wishes

M

Cheers,

Ramapriya

Dear Chandrashekhar

It is Moon and its relationship with Rahu that holds the key in my current study, so I am pleased you flagged this , I discovered this after twelve hours of study of all other factors generally held to be debilitating----balristhta yogas, gadanta, PAM mrityubhaga and a host of other time consuming factors now relegated to the realms of maybe but not in this lifetime!!

Still at least I found it!

Re: chart of child with cystic fibrosis

Dear Margaret,

You are right it is not only Gandanta that is responsible for early

death. Moon in 8th bhava and afflicted with Rahu, Lord of the Lagna in

12th with the 6th lord and Lagna itself in Papakartari yoga have had a

cumulative effect as the dasha at birth was also Mer-Mar-Ven-Rah-Mercury.

Perhaps we may see some breakthrough in later years but for now on the average, individuals with CF have a lifespan of approximately 30 years, which is not good news.

My understanding of a congenital birth defect is that the child is

born with the problem and that a malefic dasha sequence at birth

should not only predict illness right there and then but should also

indicate the nature of the disease.

The definition of a malefic dasha sequence is as follows

1. It involves the 6th, 8th and 12 houses and/or lords

2. Lagna and or lagna lord - representing the body - need to be involved

3. Affliction to the lagna or its lord and weakness of the lagna lord

incrase the affliction

4. There should be no aspect from a strong Jupiter on the lagna, its

lord or the moon

More than one dasha should be used to confirm the problem.

Lung problems:

The Lung is indicated by the third house, third lord and the natural

signifcator of the 3rd house mercury. Rahu and Ketu are often

involved. Some people also look for an an affliction to Mars as they

see it as the naural significator for brothers, a third house

indication. Cystic Fibrosis involves increased secretions (Jupiter =

expansion/increase) followed by inflammation (sun, mars, sat, Ketu)

and finally hardening of the tissue (saturn)

Analysis:

I have used 8 am birth time which gives a lagna of 10 degrees 46 Leo.

Vimshottari dasha (365 days, lahiri) is Mercury Rahu Jupiter

Yogi dasha gives Saturn Moon

Is there indication of a lung problem in the chart?

The Natural significator of Lungs, Mercury, is in the 12th with

infant lagna lord Sun and 6th lord saturn. There is no protective

influence of a protective Jupiter.

The third house of lungs is occupied by Jupiter suggesting an

expansion in this area. Unfortunately this Jupiter is also the 8th

lord suggesting chronicity. As mentioned cystic fibrosis involves

expanded excretions in the lungs.

The third lord venus is in Mercuries house (gemini) in the 11th. This

is a secondary house of illness being 6th from the 6th. It is

aspected by Jupiter the 8th lord.

The lagna lord is weak in infantcy ( 0 degrees 40 minutes). It is in

the 12th house and it is associated with the 6th lord Saturn. All

this is tied up with Mercury the natural significator of the lungs

and the dasha lord.

The Lagna is occupied by Natural malefic mars (inflammation).

So all the indications for a lung problem that involves expanded

secretions, inflammation and final hardening and scarring are involved.

What about the dasha sequences - do they indicate this lung problem

active at birth?

Vimshottari: Merc Rahu Jup

Dasha lord mercury (2,11L) in 12 conjunct Ascendant Lord Sun and 6th

lord saturn

Antar dasha lord Rahu in 8th

PD lord Jupiter (8) in the 3ed house of lungs

Yogini: Sat Moon

Dasha Lord Saturn (6L) in 12 conjunct Ascendant lord Sun and natural

significator for lungs (merc)

AD lord Moon; (12L) in the 8th conjunct Rahu

In addition there is Balarishta with Moon in 8th but it is a day

birth which offers some protection

This is very good case study that fulfills all the requirements of

congenital birth defect with confirmation of the problem in the lungs

with diagnostic indications of "cystic fibrosis".

Given this analysis, I am not sure I agree that the main cause of the

problem is the Moon Rahu combination in the 8th. I am open to

suggestions of why this may be the case.

A secondary question is can you see this in his father's chart? (8:40

am 20/2/1951, Glasgow, lahiri, 365 days)

It looks like you can.

On the 17th July 2006 - the birth day - Gordon was running Moon Venus

Mercury.

The dasha sequence needs to show the birth of a child (5th) with a

chronic (8th) lung problem (3rd/Merc)

Dasha lord Moon is 5th lord in the 5th aspected by the PD lord

Mercury (Lungs) in the 11th.

AD lord Venus in the 1st is also the 3rd lord of Lungs and the 8th

lord of Chronicity.

All conditions fulfilled. OK it is retrospective, but given that the

first child died at birth, it is fair to argue that many astrologers

would have been concerned with the involvement of the 3rd and 8th

lord venus.

Dear Rampriya,

Sorry for hastily produced mail and mis-spelling of your name and the reference to Jupiter was not fully expressed properly either in my haste, so apologies for for that.

Thanks for the explanation of Paka lagna.

best wishes

Dear Alan

This is quite a thorough analysis and as you say the chart makes a very good case study, especially as we have the father's data as well .

I posted the data to see if anyone knew of any factors which might offer hope of respite from the short life expectancy.

As for the Moon Rahu connection this would play a part I think as Moon rules fluids and cystic fibrosis is related to the over production of mucus in the lungs and due to this also affects secretions of the heart and other major internal organs as well as the immune system fluids.

Parasara tells us that short life is indicated by an afflicted Moon in 8th, which is what is happening in this chart, though there would have to be other factors supporting this, which are already being pointed out.

I think the the Moon Rahu connection was raised in a more general sense by myself and Chandrshekar in relation to significations found in charts of children who died quite young, a factor which is currently verified in a quota of charts of early death which I am studying at the moment, though if you know of any other factors which signal early demise, then please do share them.

Two longevity factors (as opposed to short life) I found are the lord 12 in 8 which gives medium span, and then Venus in karakamsa which gives longevity of 100 years according to Parsara, however I was interested to learn of jyotishes experience of this type of chart.

Thank you for a very detailed exposition it was very interesting to read,

best wishes

Margaret

Diagnosis of Cogenital Disease at birth - chart of child with cystic fibrosis

OK it is retrospective, but given that the

first child died at birth, it is fair to argue that many astrologers

would have been concerned with the involvement of the 3rd and 8th

lord venus.
