Guest guest
Namaste all members, Swami Sri Shankara Bharati, pontiff of an ancient Advaitic Mutt located in Yedathore, Mysore district, Karnataka, is a seer with a noble vision. He has engaged himself in a number of activities in spreading the message of Adishankara in a variety of programmes. He is trying to collect information on whatever material is available on Shankara (especially on His personality, His philosophy, etc.)in the form of books, articles, talks, etc. in any language. This is an appeal to all members to help in this endeavour. I request each of you to inform me about: 1. Books on Shankara (in any language, Indian (Sanskrit, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Oriya, etc..) as well as others like English, German, French, Spanish, etc.) 2. Individual articles/chapters on Shankara forming part of some book even non-related to Shankara. 3. Talks (in audio/print form) on Shankara delivered in any language. It is possible that some of the popular Swamis like Sw. Chinmayananda, Dayananda Saraswati, Paramarthananda, Vivekananda, etc. have written/lectured on Shankara. Some scholars would have presented papers, given talks in seminars, etc. All this would be useful in my search. 4. Even posts that have appeared in various like Advaitin, etc. on Shankara. (For example, on the occasion of the previous Shankara Jayanti I had posted some articles, one of them a reproduction of what had appeared in The Hindu.) Even picture-story types normally addressed to children could be included. 5. Any other literature on Shankara, even if they are critical of Him. The information on the above may pl. be sent to me privately. The purpose of making this appeal is to reach the maximum number of people. It is possible that there are items mentioned in any of the above categories that have not found a place on the internet. Information on such items can be best given by those of you who have seen/read them and have those books/articles with you. Links can be given to those items available on the net. Information regarding other publications can be given with title, name of author, publisher, place where it is available, price, etc. Articles/chapters could also be scanned and sent to me as attachments. I once again appeal to all the members to help me in this work that i have undertaken at the behest of the good-natured Swami who proposes to perhaps exhibit these materials and finally create a database for future uses/research. I am dependent on the collective abilities of all of you keeping in view my own poor searching abilities. Members who are non-Indian nationals can help with information on Shankara in non-Indian languages, apart from English. I particularly name esteemed members: Sarva-Shri Sundar Hattangadi, Prof.VK, Ram Chandran, Ananda Wood, Dennis Waite, Madathil Nair, Kathirasan and Madam Dhyanasaraswati. The others who come to my mind are Dr. Shyam, Dr.Yadu, Ramesh Krishnamurty, Sundar Rajan AV, Peter, Michael, Felipe, etc. Even the others whom i have not named may kindly help in this good cause. As and when you come across something that will be of use in this search, pl. mail that info. to me. With warm regards to all, subbu Om Tat Sat
Guest guest
Dear Subbu-ji, That's a very worthwhile pursuit. I wonder if you could upload a file of the material to the list (if moderators allow) - as you gather it. Or perhaps there could be a central source ( a work in progress ) that people could visit and the see if they have any thing to add. It might just prevent people spending time only to duplicate information already received. There is already quite a lot of material listed on the net, on web pages, bibiographys & so on work. Best wishes, Peter ________________________________ advaitin [advaitin] On Behalf Of subrahmanian_v 30 November 2006 07:13 advaitin Help needed on Material re: Adishankara Namaste all members, Swami Sri Shankara Bharati, pontiff of an ancient Advaitic Mutt located in Yedathore, Mysore district, Karnataka, is a seer with a noble vision. I sincerely thank all these friends and members Shri Dennis Waite and Shri Sunder Hattangadi for the pains taken by them. Warm regards, subbu Om Tat Sat // I have searched and found out the references about Shankaracharya in the works of Swami Vivekananda. I have given them in the footnote. If you want the full text of these references you can get it in http://www.ramakrishnavivekananda.info. You can make use of the search facility provided in the site. Apart from these Swami Siddeshwaranandaji used to give lectures on shankara bhashya in france. Some articles you can get at our site http://www.sriramakrishnamath.org/Magazine/VK/vkarticlecat.asp. Sort by author and you will find his article entitled Eternal Message of the Bhagavad Gita where he quotes extensively from the bhashya of the acharya. You may get some more article on Bhagavadpada in the same link. Wish you all the best in the ennobling endeavour to preserve the works of our Shankaracharya. Pranams to Swamiji for his benevolent effort too.
