I'm heading to Winter solstice with my husband and 21 month old son

this year. To be honest, I was coerced. I did like summer solstice

when I was without child, but am very apprehensive about taking him

this year. Has anyone taken a very young child? Can anyone ease my

mind about this trip? I suppose my main concerns are food (I can

withstand just about anything but i can't see my little Ananda eating

potato soup and bananas for breakfast, or mung beans and rice with

onions and iceberg lettuce for dinner, etc). We booked a cabin. I hope

if we have cabinmates they don't mind a baby that wakes about every 2

hours... And, on the tantric day that we host childcare as seva, will

it be only me and my husband watching a bunch of various aged children

or are there several people doing this per day?

Any comments are welcome.

Dear concerned Mama Sat Nam,

I do not have any small children but I can answer a

few of your concerns, as far as food for your little

one, the children do NOT have the same diet that we

do. They have lots of yummy stuff, the kind of foods

that children like (:

I know this because often we have joked and said that

we were going to go into the kitchen and sneak what

they are eating, smiles

and if you find that she doesn't want to eat the foods

that are being served, there is a big grocery store,

even a Walmart "real" close by (like 5 min. down the

road, easy to find) and you can bring some of her

favorites with you...

if you are flying in and are not renting a car, no

worries there will be lot's of people who have cars

that will be happy to help you, just ask (:

as far as childcare goes, you will have others with

you to help you, you wouldn't be expected to be the

only ones who help with the children...

and if you find that its just too much for you to

be in a cabin with others there is a hotel close by

(about 10 minutes away)if you want to find about their

room rates you can contact me personally & I can look

up their phone number for you...

just letting you know so that you can be prepared to

have options, smiles

to ease your mind more may I suggest that you call

out there to 3HO in New Mexico & speak with

Joti 888-346-2420

and share your concerns with her, she is head of

registration and will be happy to answer any of your

concerns...that's what she is there for (:

its a really beautiful environment, you'll be

surrounded by green grass, a lake (you can canoe if

you like) there's even horses to ride and its alot

more mellow than summer solstice, the environment is

not nearly as harsh and there's only about 500 people,

not 1,500...I find the energy to be more heart

centered ((hugs))

I hope that this letter serves to help ease your mind

so that you can come and immerse youself in all the

beauty of winter solstice...

many blessings Jiwan Shakti Kaur

Due to other demands on my time, I've never been able to attend a solstice although I have wanted to attend one for a long time. However, I can't imagine that you would be prevented to take with you all the things you, as a mother, feel is necessary to properly care for your child. I can't imagine anyone will tell you you can only feed your baby certain foods and not others. People take young children and babies camping all the time, just take with you what you will not be able to get at the solstice. I think I would have loved bananas and potato soup for breakfast as a baby! I'm sorry you're feeling coerced. Try to meditate and let go of the negative feelings. I'm sure you and your baby will have a wonderful time if you can let the healing power of the universe come in and do its magic.
