Guest guest
Dear friends, I have a student who went through surgery recently. Her doctors told her not to excercise, but she´s supposed to do long walks in order to accelerate the healing process. She asked me if she could come to classes and, instead of doing the primary series, do some asanas that would helpe her in that process, some meditation and savasana. I would realy like to hear your opinions to help me to make the decision of leting her come and, if I agree, what would be the most benefial asanas for her. She had an hysterectomy and I teach ashtanga. Thanks. Peace, Anis

Guest guest
This is in response to Lucia's advice about doing asanas that require "no effort" and lists asana's like trikonasana, ardha badha pachimottanasana, etc. I mean no disrespect but I completely disagree! This student has just had a hysterectomy so any pose putting pressure on the belly I would steer clear of. And trikonasana can be quite challenging especially when done correctly. I don't think any of us would encourage a student to "sacrifice the body for the glory of the pose" but then I think it much more benificial to instead follow the other advice you gave and meditate, practice prananyama (gently reintroducing the use of moolha bandha), yoga nidra and/or restorative yoga. But I would avoid ashtanga until she is given the "all clear" by her doctors.
