Guest guest
hello all, ok so i have a slight confusion... since most of the mantras i know i basically taught myself, i have read most of them only in roman script... so whether the vowel sound is extended or not (like with a 'badi i ki matra or choti i etc) can be slightly ambiguous at times... most of it i figure out in the end... but one thing that confuses me is the bija mantra hum... i have read somewhere that 'Hum with the long letter 'u' is called the Kurcha bija and is the mantra of the Mother worshipped by heroes (viras).' which makes me think that it's a bada u ki matra that is under the bija mantra hum, but i also have this pdf that has hum with a choti i ki matra under it... and it is in devanagri, and it describes hum as damana bija... suppression of all evil... rahu runs away etc., are there two bija mantras? one with an elongated and one with a shortened u ki matra? for instance, is the hum in tara's mantra om hrim strim hum phat elongated in contrast with matangi's mantra 'om hrim klim hum matangayai phat swaha'? because sometimes i see a accent on top of the 'u' in hum and sometimes i dont... this has been bugging me for a while now so if a speedy response would be greatly appreciated... cheers, krish
Guest guest
It is good that you have pointed out these contradictions. By word of mouth, mantas travelled all over a vast area from Afghanistan to Myanmar.Indo-China and from Tibet to islands in Indian ocean. We don't know what transformations took place in these journeys to and fro.You have however approached the right group which has the expertise to advise you on what is the standard and generally acceptable pronunciation and resolve your doubts along with that of many others like me. nomoreifalready <krish.pillai > wrote: hello all, ok so i have a slight confusion... since most of the mantras i know i basically taught myself, i have read most of them only in roman script... so whether the vowel sound is extended or not (like with a 'badi i ki matra or choti i etc) can be slightly ambiguous at times... most of it i figure out in the end... but one thing that confuses me is the bija mantra hum... i have read somewhere that 'Hum with the long letter 'u' is called the Kurcha bija and is the mantra of the Mother worshipped by heroes (viras).' which makes me think that it's a bada u ki matra that is under the bija mantra hum, but i also have this pdf that has hum with a choti i ki matra under it... and it is in devanagri, and it describes hum as damana bija... suppression of all evil... rahu runs away etc., are there two bija mantras? one with an elongated and one with a shortened u ki matra? for instance, is the hum in tara's mantra om hrim strim hum phat elongated in contrast with matangi's mantra 'om hrim klim hum matangayai phat swaha'? because sometimes i see a accent on top of the 'u' in hum and sometimes i dont... this has been bugging me for a while now so if a speedy response would be greatly appreciated... cheers, krish Find out what India is talking about on - Answers India Send FREE SMS to your friend's mobile from Messenger Version 8.
