Should a footnote be given for the first appearance in the text of terms, like "siddha-pranali," that are defined in the glossary? NB "siddha-pranali" is one of several such terms that most readers might be expected to be familiar with, as it is likely that most readers will be devotees or others with at least elementary knowledge of Gaudiya Vaisnava theology and history. I would say alert your reader in the intro or preface to the existence of an extensive glossary, and then dispense with footnotes defining words. This system is good when most of your readers will know the word anyway or you have a lot of words that need defining. The first applies here, the latter in Srila Prabhupada's books. dd >-- > > >Version: 7.5.432 / Virus Database: 268.15.18/586 - Release >12/13/2006 6:13 PM > > > > >-- > > >Version: 7.5.432 / Virus Database: 268.15.18/586 - Release >12/13/2006 6:13 PM -- Version: 7.5.432 / Virus Database: 268.15.23/591 - Release 12/17/2006 3:17 PM
