However, I feel that by uttering and notifying such incidents, we may be popularizing them. Guest guest
All, Atheists may not recognize God, whereas, God reacognizes them. People like ER are a result of exploitation in the name of God by some vested and some misguided souls. They certainly have a place as long as exploitation and blind tradition at the cost of truth exists. However, I think all right minded people should object to the location of the statue, and not statue per se. In that spirit, I wrote this letter to "The Hindu" and they did not publish for whatever reason. Probably "The Hindu" is not as balanced as it is thought to be perceived. I am sharing that letter here. I encourage others to voice similar opinion, if you agree. May be it will open eyes! Sir- Everything has a place, time and role. Installig ER's statue in front of Raja Gopuram in Srirangam is not ideology, but simply mischief. ER was an athiest who, in his own way stood against blind faith. As we know blind faith has helped (is helping) heal as well as made (and making) life miserable for millions of people all over the world. But would DK dare to put ER's statue on Thomas Mound in Chenai or in front of a Jama Masjid, Golden Temple, Taj Mahal, or Bahubali's statue? You won't place statues of Bertrand Russel or Carl Marx statues in front of Basicillica of St. Peters in Vatican. All these personalities and institutions have inspired people one way or other. Let us respect their unique roles without tyring to hurt any sentiments - like you don't put foot in the mouth, eventhough both are essential and have a role! I think strict zoning regulations should be in place to avoid this sort of problems in future. Better yet, we should ban anymore statue installation in public places. I assure you, except birds, nobody else will miss them! If people want, let them use their private land. We need to follow the ideology o four hero's more than wasting public land for raising additional statues! chakri_seshan (AT) (DOT) co.in Fri, 15 Dec 2006 11:56 AM Re: Sri Ranga ! Guest guest
Dear All Aren't we all blowing this insignificant incident beyond proportions. Few points on this issue: 1. By installing a statue of EVR (I would refrain from calling him periyar as he has not done anything significant to qualify himself being called so) the so called DKdians have given up their ideology and have surrendered to Idol worship. 2. By mere installing a statue of a mortal human being in Srirangam they aren't going to take away the devotion, love and trust we have on our religion and its customs 3. By declaring that they will install 128 more statues they have clearly indicated the fear in them of being minisculed To sum up the best form of descenting this is not to keep worrying, pondering and discussing about it. Let us at no point give away to this muffins and behold the values preached in by our Acharyans. On Namo Narayanaya..... Guest guest
Dear all, While there is nothing wrong per se to errect statues of whoever/whatever it may be , the question is of esthetics. That is why strict zoning laws must be enforced. The statue looks quite ugly, of questionable craftsmanship and also the location w.r.t gopuram looks bad at least in the pictures- may be it may not look so bad in live. It certainly does not add to the beauty. As a whole we have very poor civic sense and it is common to see human and animal waste around places of interest and importance. At least they can be swept away and are less durable with so many stray dogs around. This is not true for an ugly piece of granite art in front of a remarkable structure. nanduba Mon, 18 Dec 2006 5:17 AM Re: Sri Ranga ! Guest guest
Dear all, By installing EVR's statue in SRI RANGAM (the boologa vaikundam) this shows the leader of the DKdians also wants to be in DIVYADESAM. This shows their fearness, whether after EVR there will be no one to lead the DK. Let us take in the positive note. RANGA will preach a lesson to all of them in short period. Let us pray for that.
