Singapore President worships Lord Venkateswara

Tirupati, Dec.19, 2006 (Tirupatitimes.com)

The President of Singapore, Mr.S R Nathan accompanied by his wife, Mrs.

Urmila Nandey offered prayers at the famous hill shrine of Lord

Venkateswara at Tirumala near here tonight.

On his arrival the octogenarian, Mr. Sellapan Ramanathan was accorded a

warm reception by the temple management called Tirumala Tirupati

Devasthanams (TTD). After prayers, the president was invoked Lord's

blessings by the priests while the TTD Chairman Mr. B. Karunakara Reddy

offered him a sacred silk cloth and prasadams.

Temple sources said that this was his second visit to the India's

richest hill shrine as earler Mr.Nathan, had visited the shrine on

December 11, 2004.

Mr. Nathan would stay on the hills tonight and before leaving for

Chennai on Wednesday morning, he would be offering his worship again by

participating in the daily pre-dawn rituals conducted to the presiding

deity at the shrine.

Earlier when he arrived at the highly guarded Sri Padmavathi Guest

Housed on the hills, in an informal chat with the Press, Mr. Nathan said

that Singapore was looking forward to improve better economic relations

with India and neighboring countries. It was his private visit to the

sacred hills as he has come here to seek the blessings of Lord

Venkateswara and not to make any political statements, he added.

Dear Sri Satyanarayana,

I don't understand what you are trying to convey from emails like

this. You have missed reporting on important occasions related to

Vaishnavism like dhanurmAsa celebrations, ManavALa mahAmuni, Vedanta

Desika, Ramanuja and several azhwars' birthdays, which are

celebrated in the Govindaraja swamy temple, while Ramanuja birhtday

is also celebrated on the hill.

Regards

Vishnu
