Hey all,

Trying to pick a path of sadhana in life and want to know which

God/mantra to go with.

Data is

21/10/1986 8:27 AM San Diego, CA, USA

from chart...

AK is Merc (in gemini in D9), 12th from AK in D9 is Venus/Mars in

Taurus.

Do check whether Jupiter/ Ketu( via rasi dhriti) aspect Taurus. It also depends on which spiritual traditon one follows. For Hindus, Venus could stand for Sri, consort of Vishnu or some aspects of Devi. The combination with mars could even suggest Durga. Given it's placement in a feminine and a beneific sign, i believe that will be a strong inclination to a female/ creative aspect of Godhead. Mars combination suggest an inclination towards the darker mystical side of spirituality. Of cos Jupiters/Ketu aspect changes that. Ketu signifies the Vedantic aspect or self introspection/ meditation etc..

Thanks for the input. Jupiter/Ketu don't aspect 12H from KK. But Sun/Sat (in Scorpio) aspect by graha drsti. So you're suggesting some type of devi worship. What type of mantra would work for me then?

Oh yeah, Venus is in Libra (asc.) in the rasi, and mars is in Cp (4H) in Rasi. I'm sure the Saturn/Sun aspect from the 8H in D9 does influence it though. Perhaps Saturn does more, as saturn is aspecting the 4H/8H in rasi, which is also 12th from KK in Rasi (8H). (Though I know SJC doesn't necessarily follow looking 12th from KK in Rasi, just a thought.) Jupiter does aspect Sat/Sun in D9 from 12H pisces, which is somewhat relevant because Sat/Sun are aspecting 12th from KK.

Blegh, this is getting to my head. I wish my Ista's murti would just fall in my lap so I may start worshipping them... My friends are always telling me of saligrams or giriraj shilas that just 'mysteriously' enter their lives, and they begin to worship them!

Dear Achyutananda,

That can be Hrsikesa(Venus) or Narasimha (Mars). Find which has stronger avastha and if equal -> highest longitude.

Thanks for the response. Yeah I used to worship Narasimha when I was young, but since he is easily angered I got afraid and stopped my sadhana... Perhaps I may begin reciting Narasimha Kavacam and stotrams again.

As to the stronger avastha... Well, in the Rasi, Venus is weaker, it is conjunct AK mercury (which is 9L/12L and a Debx Sun) it is also in 'old' avastha. Mars is ex'd in 4th and is 2L/7L and in 'youthful' avastha. Would I go with Mars in this case?

Please clarify.

Dear Acyutananda, Namaskar

Avastha should be seen in D9 while longitude is seen in D1 as its basis for Vargas.

Dear Member:

You need not worry that Lord Narasimha is a God who can get angry

easily......He is a "Bhaktavatsalaa" (one who is affectionate to His

devotees). In fact Narasimha avataara is a classic demonstration

for how the Lord is ever eager to please and help His devotees.

Lord Narasimha's ugra (fierce) form is only to chase away

negativities of life and He is a benevolent One to His devotees.

Mantras on Lord Narasimha are very efficacious in removing effects

of Black magic, removing lunacy, improving courage, strength, etc.

Chanting "Runa Vimochana Narasimha sthothra" which is in the

Narasimha Puranam will definitely help anybody to get rid of debts

and ensure prosperity. You can boldy go ahead with Narasimha

upaasana. Lord Narasimha is the avatar for Mars and you can go

ahead with your prayers.

May His Grace fall on you.

Dear Sir,

The most important thing to realise is the religious tradition, which appeals to you. The concept of ista Devata literally means the diety one likes or has an affinity to. The devotee should realise who his ishta devata is even without looking at the horoscope. This is my opinion. The role of the Ishta devata is to guide one to Moksha, which is why we look at the planets posited at the 12th from karakamsa or if non, the lord of the 12th house.

If you are following the vaishnava tradition, then what Rafaz has indicated will be appropriate and his comments on longitudinal postions in rasi are valid as in the comment on avasta.

My take is that Saturn's aspect on Venus, in venus's own house is a form of tapaswi yoga. Saturn stands for discipline and hard work and Venus(Semen or sukracharya) is also a great tapaswi. Sun stands for the knowledge of atma and is often a reference to Siva. Planets aspecting the 12th would show the qualities of the planet being thrust upon the 12th rather than the ishta devata, which should be seen from the primary planets, Venus and Mars are the primary players here
