Sri Krishna Sabha,Sion, Mumbai is in its 71st year of exsistance. The

sabha is cultivating, sharing, practising the trditional procedure in

performing utsavams significant to srivaishnavism.Sri Ramanuja

Jayanthi,Sri Krishna Jayanthi,Dhanur masa utsavam are some of the

major activities.A day in a year complete rendering of Srimad Bhagawad

Gita,Sri Ranganatha Padhuka Sahasram,Desika Prabandham is also

held. This introduction apart,i wish to bringout the traditional way

they conduct the dhanur masa utsavam.Contrary to the belief ,the

trdition is not giving way to modern attractions in big cities like

mumbai.Every day during dhanur masam,a sizable group of

srivaishnavites gather at 5 30 AM coming from various parts of the

city.First aradhana to the presiding deity Lord Krishna is performed

by the priest.Daily the goshti recite

Thirupalliezuchi,Thiruppavai,Dayashathakam(on saturdays)and Godha

stuthi. The bhagavathas take out a trditional procession.A lantern and

a photo of Godess Andal is carried in the hands and goaround the mada

veedhi reciting the upanishad. As per tradition they stop in front of

houses for inmates to have a pradakshinam of bhagavathas. On return to

sabha after sattumurai,Desika Mangalam,Gopala Vimshadi are rendered by

everybody. It is sure to continue this traditional way in the years to

come. The web site of the sabha is www.srikrisnasabha.org and their e

mail id admin (AT) srikrishnasabha (DOT) org-dasan r.veeraraghavan, mumbai
