Guest guest
Namaste The Coorgis in South of India pray to a diety named Sri Igguthappa. I request forum members to share any pauranic reference or story about the diety? I would also like to know if he is another form of other known deity. Any help in this matter will be most appreciated. Thanks and Regards Bharat

This you probably know too already. Legend has it that Igguthappa had enough of the communist trade unions and migrated from Kerala to Coorg eons ago, bringing and introducing the Kerala panchang system into the new place; the temple priests still follow that panchanga. I've at least one Kodava friend who speaks highly of the extent of reverence Igguthappa commands in the region, almost as much as Kaveramma. Cheers, Ramapriya

Guest guest
Namaste Sri Ramapriya, Sri Chandrashekharji, Sri Soul, Sri Bhaskar Yes, there is great reverence for Sri Igguthappa amongst the Coorgis. A person I know has Lord Igguthappa coming in the dreams and guiding in life. The appearance, I am told, is in form a Naga. Could it be another form of Lord Subramanya as Sri Soul has suggested. Any reference to look up will be great. Any coorgis here who can relate their know how about the deity? I thank everyone who has contributed. Guest guest
Yes I have just read the 108 names of Subramanya and theres no reference to Naga in any of them, but then we are not experts to judge about this so cant talk with authority so to say. But due to this mail of yours since last two days I have been able to read some good stuff on this Group of people. Guest guest
Dear Chandrashekar ji & other respected memebers Thanks for the clues. Subramanya's vahana is Peackock an enemy of Sarpas. Peackock has a name as Shikhi and thus represents ketu(shikhi) which is another end of time/sarpa.This end(shikhi) is sahasrara as compared to rahu the manifested world or numerous heads as seen in Ananta. Thus subrahmanya and peacock symbolically represents Sahasrara chakra. Ganesha and mouse/elephant is mooladhara - mouse having the ability of unearthing sookshama and elephant the represntation of sthoola. Two in one. These are as per Tantra shastra which i have heard recently. Guest guest
Sir, // Subramanya's vahana is Peackock an enemy of Sarpas.// Which would also imply that Subramanya cannot be a form of Naga but if Subramanyam is a Form of lakshmana then He can be another form of Shesh Naga. //Thus subrahmanya and peacock symbolically represents Sahasrara > chakra.// Sir peacock if I am not mistaken represents the Vishuddhi Chakra with reference to behaviorial characteristics. The Sahasra Chakra would be a thousand petalled lotus, so to say and apart from pure illumination nothing else can exist there. The Ruling Planet is Ketu here and the Deva is ParBrahma. // Ganesha and mouse/elephant is mooladhara - mouse having the ability of unearthing sookshama and elephant the represntation of sthoola. Two in one. These are as per Tantra shastra which i have heard recently.// Sir Ganesh and Elephant are pictorially represented in Mooladhara Chakra, but then Elephant is again represented in Visuddhi Chakra pictorially. But behaviorial characteristic wise Mooladhar is symbolically related to Cobra (Aadhar Chakra-Ant, Swadhisthan -Butterfly, Anahat-Deer, Vishudhi-Peacock, Agya-Swan ) You may correct me if I am wrong. regards, Bhaskar. , "vijayadas_pradeep" <vijayadas_pradeep wrote: > > Dear Chandrashekar ji & other respected memebers > > Thanks for the clues. > > Subramanya's vahana is Peackock an enemy of Sarpas. > Peackock has a name as Shikhi and thus represents ketu(shikhi) which > is another end of time/sarpa.This end(shikhi) is sahasrara as > compared to rahu the manifested world or numerous heads as seen in > Ananta. > Thus subrahmanya and peacock symbolically represents Sahasrara > chakra. > Ganesha and mouse/elephant is mooladhara - mouse having the ability > of unearthing sookshama and elephant the represntation of > sthoola. Two in one. > These are as per Tantra shastra which i have heard recently. > > Respect > Pradeep > > > , Chandrashekhar > <chandrashekhar46@> wrote: > > > > Dear Bharat, > > > > I would say it is difficult to equate Naga with Subramanyam. > > > > Chandrashekhar. > > > > Bharat Hindu Astrology wrote: > > > > > > Namaste Sri Ramapriya, Sri Chandrashekharji, Sri Soul, Sri > Bhaskar > > > > > > Yes, there is great reverence for Sri Igguthappa amongst the > Coorgis. Guest guest
Namaste Sri Bhaskar, Sri Pradeep and others It is nice that you are delving into the depths to understand the nature of Lord Igguthappa. If you have some Coorgi friends who can delve into the origins of the deity, its popularity and worship, it will be truly wonderful. I thank all the posters and hope someone will be able to give us the origin, pauranic literature, etc about the said deity.
