Moderation- A Prayer to Sri Ganesha

Before undertaking any Auspicious undertaking , it is a Hindu

Tradition to offer a Prayer to Lord Vigneshwera , the remover of

obstacles.

 

May i please invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha on this auspicious

day , the first day of 2007 ?

 

 

Shree Vakratunda mahakaya koti soorya samaprabha,

 

nirvighnam kurumedeva shubha karyeshu sarvada.

 

" O lord with the twisted trunk, with the effulgence of a billion

suns, always remove the obstacles when I am on an auspicious

undertaking."

Incidentally, Adi Shankara Bhagvadapada also in the Panchayatana puja

( worship of five deities) recommended parying to all the five

dedeities , Lord ganesha being one of them - the others are Shiva,

Vishnu, Devi and Surya and Ganesha.Worship of Lord Skanda is also

done along with these other deities .

 

May i recall this verse from Adi Shankara Bhagvadapada's Ganesha

Pancharatnam ?

 

Nitaantikaanta Dantakaanti Mantakaanta Kaatmajam

Achintya Rupa Mantaheena Mantaraaya Krintanam

Hrudantarey Nirantaram Vasantameva Yoginam

Tameka Danta Meva Tam Vichintayaami Santatam.

 

Meaning: I constantly reflect upon that single tusked God only, whose

lustrous tusk is very beautiful, who is the son of Lord Shiva, (Shiva,

the God of destruction), whose form is immortal and unknowable, who

tears asunder all obstacles, and who dwells forever in the hearts of

the Yogis.
