Here are few notes on initiation.

The more intense purification starts from the time of initiation in the SB 12.11.17 is said:

 

...initiation is the means of purification for the spirit soul, and rendering devotional service to the Personality of Godhead is the process for eradicating all one’s sinful reactions.

 

SP - initiation lecture of Bali-mardana:

 

"We have to go further and further till the stage of perfection. But initiation is the beginning".

 

Initiation lecture in Los Angels 1969

 

"So when you enter into the Krsna science you get so much volumes of transcendental knowledge, and we are trying to present before you this knowledge in so many ways, by cleansing your heart from this material contamination. And this initiation is the beginning of cleaning the contamination".

 

Boston 1969 initiation lecture

 

"The initiation is the beginning of purification, and offering the sacred thread means bringing him more nearer".

 

SP - Letter to Yadurani 1972:

 

"First initiation is the preliminary, just to make him prepared, just like primary and secondary education. The first initiation gives him chance to become purified, and when he is actually purified then he is recognized as a brahmana and that means real initiation".

 

 

From Brahma samhita 5.27 (end of the purport):

 

...because the initiation or acquisition of transcendental birth as a result of spiritual initiation is the highest of glories in as much as the jiva is thereby enabled to attain to the transcendental realm.
