Guest guest
Hi Debbie, So...although traditionally this kind of practice might be done sitting in one place and doing the 100,000 repititions until they are finished, very few of us are in a position to do that kind of sadhana. We are householders and we live in the West. Most of us have jobs and families, some of us might already be doing alot of practice, etc. When we were all doing the Mother Earth sankalpa last year, Nanda talked about her "car japa", describing how her drive to and from work had become one of her favorite japa times. You might have a commute like this in your life? Once you have done the mantra for about a week or so, you will find that you know it by heart and don't have to "try and remember it". If you buy a mala of 108beads (swamiji might suggest which kind is best for this sankalpa?) and then also get yourself a little "counter" (available in Tibetan Buddhist stores...it's a string with 10 beads on it that you can move back and forth...each bead represents one mala's worth of mantras). So you could keep track of your japa very easily and, if you were commuting, you could do your japa then. Your car will become quite an amazing place to be in!! You can take your mala/counter out on long walks, sitting out in Nature, waiting in line at the bank, etc. And, of course, you can do formal japa in your meditation area whenever it's practical for you. God is everywhere! best luck to you, sadhvi
Guest guest
Great, Good ideas, I love the car too. Like the 10 counter idea, haven't heard of those before. Have to see where to get one, Had planed to make a small calendar sheet & hang in the library where I ck emails, but the counter sounds better. Made my two mala's. Not sure if appropriate but using a multi stoned one. Hoping to purchase a Rud. seed one from Rudra Center & wld love Swami's suggestion as to what is best. nityashakti <sadhvi (AT) charter (DOT) net> wrote: Hi Debbie, So...although traditionally this kind of practice might be done sitting in one place and doing the 100,000 repititions until they are finished, very few of us are in a position to do that kind of sadhana. Guest guest
You could also use a counter device. They sell them in sporting good stores, staples, and some hardware stores. The go up to 9999 usually. For this sankalpa it seems like it would be quite okay. Easy to use in the car and elsewhere and then you don't have to worry about losing your place, unlike with a mala. I haven't checked, but try sportsauthority online. I don't know the exact term for one. Lap counters for swimming work well too and are even smaller and silent. Not as good for big fingers though probably. Pranams, Surya - Debra McDaniel Saturday, January 06, 2007 7:14 PM Re: [www.ShreeMaa.org] Re: practical: for Debbie Great, Good ideas, I love the car too. Guest guest
http://www.control3.com/3125p.htm Here is what I was talking about in the last post, though this is a very expensive quote. I've usually seen them for $5-$10. Jai Maa! Surya
